STRATFORD AND PATEA COUNTIES.—TAURAKAWA SURVEY DISTRICT.

All pastoral country, more or less broken; heavily timbered with tawa, rata, rimu, towai, and dense undergrowth. The soil is generally inferior, on a formation principally of papa, with shell-rock at intervals, and outcrops of sandstone. Streams are numerous, but run in deep gorges. Birch will be found on several of the spurs. The hills rise from 700 ft. to 1,200 ft. above the streams. Distance from Waitotara from forty-seven to fifty miles via the Waitotara Valley Road, which has been opened for dray traffic to within about five miles of the Koane Road running through the block. Access may also be obtained from Eltham via the Rawhitiroa Road, distance from thirty-eight to forty-four miles and a quarter; eleven miles of this road has been metalled, another nine miles opened for dray traffic, and the remainder has been opened as a bridle-road to its junction with the Waitotara Valley Road. The Koane and Moeawatea Roads have been opened for horse traffic to within a mile of the sections.

WAITOMO COUNTY.—TOTORO SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on the Owen Road. Access is by Kohua Road, five miles from Aria, by a good dray-road. Comprises small flats, easy to steep slopes and spurs; soil of fair quality, on papa formation. The forest is light, comprising fern, manuka, and light tawa and tawhero bush, with a dense undergrowth. Fairly well watered by small streams.

CLIFTON COUNTY.—UPPER WAITARA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on the Ngatoto Road, eight miles from Matau by dray-road, formed to section. Access is also from Urenui, about sixteen miles distant. Fair to steep ridges, with easy spurs running to small flats along road frontage. The soil is of papa formation. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, towhai, and rata, with a medium undergrowth. Well watered by streams.

CLIFTON COUNTY.—MIMI SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted with £36, valuation for improvements, consisting of 18 acres felled and grassed.

Situated on the Gilbert Road, about two miles distant from Pukearuhe. Access from Uruti, five miles distant, by the Mokau Road for four miles and a half (dray-road) and the Gilbert Road for half a mile (bridle-track only). The section comprises a small quantity of flat land; the balance consists of very steep, broken, and precipitous spurs. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising tawa, rata, towhai, rewarewa, and birch on ridge-tops, with a heavy undergrowth. The soil is of good quality on the flat, and fair on spurs, on papa and sandstone formation. Well watered. Elevation varies from 200 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

Opening National Endowment Land in Taranaki Land District for Selection.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Situated on the Maikai Road, about fourteen miles from Whangamomona. Access is from the Ohura Road, five miles and a half distant, between Whangamomona and Tahoma, by the Mangaowatu Road, which is partly dray and partly bridle road to within half a mile of the section. Fairly steep country at the back, but easier towards the front; covered with heavy bush of a general nature; well watered. The formation is papa.

Opening Settlement Lands in Otago Land District for Selection.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the thirteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

Appointing Selwyn County Council to have Authority for the Purposes of the Licensing Act in Riccarton Licensing District.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by the sixty-third section of the Licensing Act, 1908, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

THE SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL

to have authority for the purposes of the Licensing Act throughout the Riccarton Licensing District, and to make all necessary appointments, and do all things required for the conduct of elections or the taking of a poll of electors, and to have the general administration of the Licensing Act within the said licensing district, in lieu of the Riccarton Road Board appointed by Warrant dated the second day of February, one thousand nine hundred and nine, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the fourth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and nine.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and ten.
