Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road through Otorohanga No. 4 and Turoto C No. 2 Blocks, Auckland Land District.


NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 18th day of October, 1906.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.

CAPE RACHADO Lt.—This F. white lt. (2°24½′ N., 101°51¼′ E.) has been replaced by a gp. fl. white lt., with a gp. of 3 fls. every 10 secs.—fl., ⅓ sec.; ecl., 1⅓ secs.; fl., ⅓ secs.; ecl., 1⅓ secs.; fl., ⅓ secs.; ecl., 6⅓ secs. The elev. and R. are unaltered. Feb.

MALACCA APPROACH.—A rk., carrying 2 ft., exists in 2°7¼′ N., 102°18¼′ E., wrd. of Pulo Besar, with wrn. extr. of Pulo Serimbun N. 76° E. 5¾ cables, and Pulo Undan Lt.-h. S. 23° E. Shoal water and irregular depths exist between this rk. and the wrn. extr. of Pulo Besar. Feb.

SINGAPORE ROAD.—PROHIBITED ANCHORAGE.—In order to keep a clear chan., vessels are prohibited from anchoring so as to swing within a dist. of 1 cable of either end of the new mole (1°16¾′ N., 103°51¼′ E.) now under constr. Feb.

SINGAPORE STRAIT.—An occ. white lt., vis. 1½ secs., ecl. 1½ secs., R. 10 miles, is to be exh. from a beacon in 1°11¼′ N., 103°53¼′ E., on Batu Beranti; and the white lt.-buoy, moored about 4 cables N.-wrd. from Batu Beranti, is to be withdrawn. Feb.


PACIFIC OCEAN.

OAHU.—HONOLULU HARB.—About 15th Feb., 1910, entr. ball buoy, 5¾ cables S. 30° E. from No. 4 pile lt.-beacon (21°17¾′ N., 157°52¼′ W.), is to be replaced by a red lt.-buoy marked “Honolulu 2,” exh. an occ. red lt.; and entr. buoy No. 1, 1⅞ cables S. 42° W. from the same lt.-beacon, is to be replaced by a black can lt.-buoy marked “1,” exh. an occ. white lt., vis. 2 secs., ecl. 2 secs. Also about the same date the front leading-lt., F. red (21°18¼′ N., 157°52¼′ W.), on ern. extr. of Sand Isl., is to be replaced by an occ. white lt., vis. 4 secs., ecl. 2 secs., elev. 43 ft., R. 15 miles, exh. from a black lantern on a square tower surm. a house, 41 ft. high, to be known as “Honolulu Harb. Lt.”; and the rear lt., F. green, on Oceanic S.S. Company’s wharf, is to be replaced by a F. red lt., vis. around the hor., and its name changed to “Honolulu Fort Street Lt.” Feb.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—SAN PABLO BAY.—CARQUINEZ STRAIT.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 1 (20) of 1910, further notice is given that on 15th January, 1910, a fourth-order fixed red light was established just inside the long wooden dyke on the northern side of the entrance to Carquinez Strait, San Pablo Bay, California.

The light is exhibited 56 ft. above high water, from a black lantern on a cream-coloured, square, frame tower with white trimmings, surmounting a two-and-one-half-story dwelling and fog-signal building with white trimmings and red roof, erected on a pile foundation in 8 ft. of water, on the following bearings from true meridian:—

Carquinez Strait, tangent northern side, 114° 15′.

Mare Island Lighthouse, 286°.

Magazine Wharf, south-eastern corner, 329° 30′.

On the same date a first-class compressed-air fog-siren, which will sound 1 blast of 3 seconds’ duration every 30 seconds, was established at the station.

Approx. position : Lat. 38°04′ 09″ N., long. 122°14′ 35″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—SAN PABLO BAY.—CARQUINEZ STRAIT.—MARE ISLAND STRAIT LIGHT TO BE DISCONTINUED.—About 15th February, 1910, Mare Island Straight light, Carquinez Strait, San Pablo Bay, California, will be permanently discontinued.

Approx. position : Lat. 38°04′ 16″ N., long. 122°14′ 34″ W.
