SUMATRA.
EAST COAST.—RHIO STRAIT.—WRECK.—CORRECTED POSITION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 2 (73) of 1910, further information has been received that the wreck of the French steamer “La Seyne” is sunk eastward of Tanjung Sau, Rhio Strait, on the following bearings from true meridian:—
Sau Island, eastern extremity, 334°, distant 2½ miles.
Nging Island, tangent, 219°.
The wreck is marked by 2 black balls hoisted on the mast by day, and by a red light placed vertically over a white light, visible 1 mile, by night.
Approx. position: Lat. 1° 01′ 45″ N., long. 104° 12′ 00″ E.
EAST COAST.—RHIO STRAIT.—WRECK.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 5 (216) of 1910, further information has been received that the wreck of the French steamer “La Seyne,” sunk in Rhio Strait, east coast of Sumatra, is now entirely submerged.
Approx. position: Lat. 1° 01′ 48″ N., long. 104° 12′ 00″ E.
CHINA SEA.
SINGAPORE STRAIT.—BATU BERHANTI.—INTENDED LIGHT.—LIGHT-BUOY TO BE WITHDRAWN.—Information has been received that an intermittent white light every 3 seconds—thus, light 1½ seconds, eclipsed 1½ seconds—will be established on Batu Berhanti, Singapore Strait, in (approximately) latitude 1° 11′ 12″ N., long. 103° 53′ 06″ E.
When the above light is established the white light-buoy, moored northward of the ledge, will be withdrawn.
JAVA.
NORTH COAST.—SURABAYA STRAIT.—WEST CHANNEL.—LIGHT-VESSEL TEMPORARILY CHANGED.—Information has been received that the light-vessel at the western entrance to Surabaya Strait, north coast of Java, has been temporarily replaced by a light-vessel exhibiting a fixed white light.
The temporary light-vessel has two masts and a black funnel.
Approx. position: Lat. 6° 51′ 45″ S., long. 112° 44′ 45″ E.
AFRICA.
CAPE COLONY.—SIMONS BAY.—INTENDED LIGHTS.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 2 (71) of 1910, further information has been received that the recently established light on the northern elbow of the eastern breakwater, Simons Bay, shows red over an arc of 210° from 55° to 265°; white over an arc of 10° from 265° to 275°; red over an arc of 30° from 275° to 305°; white over an arc of 10° from 305° to 315°, to clear Whittle Rock; obscured elsewhere. The light is exhibited 56 ft. above the sea, from a masonry tower 42 ft. high, and is visible 13 miles.
A fog-bell, struck 1 blow every 10 seconds, has been established at the station.
On the same date, 1st January, 1910, a fixed red light was established on the head of the eastern breakwater and a fixed green light on the head of the western breakwater. Each light is exhibited from an iron structure 22 ft. high, 48 ft. back from the head of the breakwater, and is visible 7 miles.
Approx. position: Lat. 34° 11′ 15″ S., long. 18° 26′ 30″ E.
NOTE.—Above bearings are from true meridian.
CHILE.
MAGELLAN STRAIT.—WESTERN ENTRANCE.—BREAKERS REPORTED.—The master of the British steamer “Palm Branch” reports having seen breakers in the western entrance to Magellan Strait, in (approximately) latitude 52° 35′ 45″ S., longitude 74° 41′ 00″ W.
WASHINGTON.
JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT ENTRANCE.—SWIFTSURE BANK LIGHT-VESSEL.—SUBMARINE FOG-BELL ESTABLISHED.—A submarine fog-signal bell, which will sound the number of the vessel, “93,” at regular intervals—thus, 9 strokes, silent interval 3 seconds, 3 strokes, silent interval 5 seconds—has been established on Swiftsure Bank light-vessel No. 93, Juan de Fuca Strait entrance, Washington.
Approx. position: Lat. 48° 31′ 50″ N., long. 124° 59′ 30″ W.

ROCK OFF INDIAN ISLAND, DUSKY SOUND, SOUTH-WEST COAST OF SOUTH ISLAND.

CAPTAIN George Hooper, R.N.R., of the Government s.s. “Amokura,” reports the existence of a rocky patch bearing N. 25° E. magnetic from N.W. point of Indian Island, Dusky Sound, and distant upwards of one cable and a half from the point and one cable from the foreshore. The least water found over the rock was 12 ft. at L.W.O.S. The rocky patch is in extent a quarter of a cable E.N.E., and slightly less in width, and is steep-to on north and west sides, having channel between it and the foreshore carrying from 6 to 17 fathoms of water. Excepting this patch the channel on N.W. side of Indian Island appears clear, the ship failing to find anything else with 20-fathom sounders constantly trailed. This is no doubt the rocky patch on which the s.s. “Waikare” struck.

Notice to Mariners No. 34 of 1910.
OTAGO HARBOUR LIGHT.

Wellington, N.Z., 13th April, 1910.
THE Otago Harbour Board have notified that on and after the 18th April, 1910, a red light will be exhibited on the most eastern point of Goat Island marking the extreme western edge of the passage between Quarantine Island and Goat Island; also that on and after the same date it is proposed to erect a new beacon on the shoal opposite Deborah Bay, in 18 ft. of water at L.W.O.S., 450 ft. north of the present beacon, and during the time of its erection a white light will be exhibited on the pile-driver, instead of the light on the present beacon.
Vessels will require to pass to the northward of the light as usual.

Notice to Mariners No. 35 of 1910.
DANGEROUS ROCK, S.W. OF PARROT ISLAND, DUSKY SOUND.

CAPTAIN J. BOLLONS, of the Government s.s. “Hinemoa,” reports the existence of an uncharted rock ¾ of a mile S.W. of Parrot Island, Dusky Sound. The following are the magnetic bearings from the rock:—
N.W. end of Parrot Island, N. 28° E.
Unnamed island between Pigeon and Parrot Islands, S. 85° E.
The south rocks of Parrot Island in line with the highest part of that island and bearing N.E. lead directly over the rock.
Approximately the depth over the rock would be 3 fathoms at low water.
The weather being very thick, with rain and an exceptionally heavy S.S.W. sea running, soundings could not be taken.
This is a very dangerous rock, as it lies in the fairway to Facile Harbour, and this fairway has always been considered perfectly free from sunken dangers.

POVERTY BAY.—TUAHINE LIGHTHOUSE REMOVED.

NOTICE is hereby given that owing to a landslip endangering the lighthouse on Tuahine Point it was found necessary to remove the structure without delay.
