IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 15 of the Land Act, 1908, I, Joseph George Ward, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorize the laying-off of Frieston Road, in the Town of Takapuna Extension No. 6, Auckland Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. instead of 99 ft.

Amending Rules for the Examination of Masters and Mates.

WHEREAS by warrant dated the 29th day of July, 1910, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 74, of the 2nd day of August following, rules were made for the examinations of candidates for certificates of competency as masters and mates: And whereas it is desirable to revoke clause (1) of rule 29 of the said rules:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other power and authority enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby revoke subclause (1) of clause 29 of the said rules of the 29th day of July, 1910, and do hereby make the following clause in lieu thereof, namely :—
Clause (1), Rule 29. Every candidate for a certificate of competency as master or mate of a foreign-going ship will be required to produce a certificate from the St. John Ambulance Association, the St. Andrew’s Ambulance Association, or the London County Council, to the effect that he has passed an examination in first aid to the injured. This clause shall take effect as from the 1st October, 1910.

It is hereby intimated that the Alfred Graving-dock will not be available for the accommodation of ships from Monday, the 21st November, 1910, until repairs, which it is anticipated may occupy one month, have been completed.

GULF ST. VINCENT.—APPROACH TO PORT ADELAIDE.—OUTER HARBOUR.
MASTERS of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed that on and after 17th October, 1910, the lights and beacons of No. 0 lead will be moved 100 ft. north from their present position, the line of leads being the same—N. 74° E. and S. 74° W.—i.e., through the centre of the 400 ft. channel.
The outer light is 33 ft. above L.W., and the back light 40 ft. above L.W. Both will be visible at a distance of about ten miles.
The beacons are open ironwork structures, and painted white.
Charts affected : 2389B, 1752, and 1750.

SHOAL OFF PATERSON’S INLET, STEWART ISLAND.

CAPTAIN Bollons, of the Government s.s. “Hinema,” reports the existence of a shoal 2 cables N.E. of Native Island, near the entrance to Paterson’s Inlet, Stewart Island.
The shoal consists of a sandy knoll a cable in extent, carrying 5 fathoms over it at L.W.O.S., with 6 and 7 fathoms round it. Position of shoal: N. extreme of Native Island S. 82° W. 4 cables, Akers Point N. 14° W.
The shoal is dangerous for boats passing inshore during easterly weather, as the break is very heavy at times.

SNOWY RIVER ENTRANCE.
REFERRING to general Notice to Mariners dated 1st August, 1907, page 138, regarding the light marking the proximity to the entrance to Snowy River, mariners and others are hereby notified that on or about the 16th November, 1910, a sixth-order dioptric light will be established at a point about 1,000 ft. to eastward of the present light in lieu thereof.

ST. LEONARDS.—WARPING-BUOY.—PORT PHILLIP.
WITH reference to general Notice to Mariners dated 1st August, 1907, page 76, regarding the red-cask warping-buoy moored in 12 ft. of water off the jetty at St. Leonards, mariners and others are hereby notified that on or about the 7th instant such warping-buoy will be removed.
