BOROUGH OF BIRKENHEAD.

Poll of Ratepayers re Loan of £4,000.

PURSUANT to “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1908,” ‘The Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908,” and section 13 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” public notice is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Birkenhead was taken on the 14th day of October, 1909, on the proposal of the Birkenhead Borough Council to borrow the sum of £4,000 for the completion of the necessary cuttings, fillings, general construction, metalling, kerbing, channelling, formation of and tarring and sanding footpaths, and to pay compensation (if any) and incidental expenses in connection with works rendered necessary in the scheme for providing a suitable grade from the new wharf along the Main Road to a point at the upper side of Bath Road, and from that point to the junction of Harbour View Road and the Main Road, according to the plans and details lying at the office of the Town Clerk. The security for the repayment of the loan to be a special rate of 5d. in the pound upon the annual rateable value of the property in the borough to provide interest and sinking fund in connection with the loan. The cost of raising the loan and first year’s interest to be paid out of loan. Interest on such loan to be at a rate not exceeding £5 10s. per centum per annum, and also a sinking fund of not less than 10s. per centum per annum.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 210. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 148. The number of informal votes recorded was 6. Majority in favour of the loan, 62.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

INVERCARGILL AND SUBURBAN BOROUGHS.

Joint Tramways Loan.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1908,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and the amendments thereof; and in the matter of a special loan of £75,000 proposed to be raised jointly by the Boroughs of Invercargill, Avenal, Gladstone, North Invercargill, East Invercargill, and South Invercargill.

We hereby give notice that on the 14th day of October, 1909, a proposal was submitted by the respective Councils of the above-mentioned boroughs to the ratepayers of the respective Boroughs of Invercargill, Avenal, Gladstone, North Invercargill, East Invercargill, and South Invercargill for raising a joint special loan of £75,000 for and in connection with the constructing, providing, and establishing the public works and engaging in the undertaking and for the purpose mentioned and set forth in the said proposal, which said proposal was published in the Southland Daily News newspaper of the 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd days of September, 1909, and that the number of votes respectively for and against the proposal in the respective boroughs was as follows:—

BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.

For the proposal .. .. .. 815 votes.
Against the proposal .. .. .. 313 votes.

And I declare the said proposal to be carried in the Borough of Invercargill.
