HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

OAHU. — PEARL HARBOUR. — BEACON DISCONTINUED. — On 3rd July, 1909, Hammer Point beacon No. 11, in the entrance to Pearl Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, was permanently discontinued, dredging at Hammer Point having rendered this beacon no longer necessary.

MOLOKAI.—MAKANALUA PENINSULA (LEPER SETTLEMENT). —LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 1st September, 1909, a second-order flashing white light, showing 1 flash every 20 seconds, will be established on the northern part of Makanalua Peninsula, northern coast of Molokai Island, Hawaiian Islands.

The light will be exhibited, 120 ft. above the ground and 213 ft. above the sea, from an octagonal, pyramidal, concrete structure, surmounted by a black cylindrical lantern, and should be visible 24 miles in clear weather.

A concrete oil-house is located 0·1 mile north-north-westward, a concrete water-tank 90 ft. south-westward, and a keeper’s dwelling 0·1 mile westward of the lighthouse.

Approx. position: Lat. 21° 12′ 20″ N., long. 156° 58′ 25″ W.

MAUI.—LAHAINA ANCHORAGE BUOY.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED. —Information has been received that a fixed red light has been established on Lahaina Anchorage buoy, Lahaina Roads, Maui Island, Hawaiian Islands. This light will be maintained throughout the year.

MAUI ISLAND.—NORTH COAST.—KAHULUI HARBOUR APPROACH.—BUOYS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 1st September, 1909, the following buoys will be established to mark dangers in the approach to Kahului, north coast of Maui Island, Hawaiian Islands:—

Spartan Reef bell buoy No. 1, in 14 fathoms of water, to mark Spartan Reef, eastern side of the approach to the harbour, on the following bearings:—
Puniawa Point, tangent, N. 76° 15′ E.
Puu Nene Hill, S. 24° 30′ E.
Kahului Breakwater, end, S. 62° W.

Waihee Reef whistle buoy No. 2, in 17 fathoms of water, to mark Waihee Reef, western side of the approach to the harbour, on the following bearings:—
Puniawa Point, tangent, S. 85° E.
Puu Nene Hill, S. 55° E.
Kahului Breakwater, end, S. 20° 30′ E.

CHINA SEA.

BANKA ISLAND.—NORTH-EAST COAST.—SULLIVAN ROCKS.—POSITION OF LIGHT-BOUY.— Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 30 (1663) of 1909, the Netherlands Government has given further notice that the white light-buoy formerly moored south-westward of Sullivan Rocks, north-east coast of Banka Island, China Sea, and recently moved about 2,750 yards S. 89° E. from its former position, is located on B.A. Chart No. 2597, in (approximately) latitude 2° 01′ 42″ S., longitude 106° 17′ 20″ E.

BANKA ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—MACCLESFIELD CHANNEL.—PULO JELAKA LIGHT.—ARC OF VISIBILITY.—The Netherlands Government has given notice that the light exhibited on Pulo Jelaka, Macclesfield Channel, east coast of Banka Island, is now visible over an arc of 243° between the bearings S. 28° 30′ W. and N. 34° 30′ W.

Approx. position: Lat. 2° 52′ 05″ S., long. 107° 00′ 43″ E.

EAST COAST.—YANGTZE RIVER ENTRANCE.—TUNGSHA CHANNEL.—BUOYS DISCONTINUED.— The Chinese Government has given notice that the following buoys marking Tungsha Channel, northward of Tungsha light-vessel, Yangtze River entrance, China, have been discontinued:—
Tungsha Banks buoy.
Tungsha buoy.
House Island buoy.
House Island crossing-buoy.
Kiutoan Flats buoy.

WUSUNG RIVER ENTRANCE.—SHOAL EXTENDED.—CAUTION. —Information has been received from the Harbourmaster at Shanghai that the bank on the southern side of the entrance to the Wusung River, abreast of Wusung Spit buoy, has extended considerably to the northward, and vessels are cautioned not to attempt to cross the bar southward of the range line unless their draft of water is less than that indicated by the signals at the Wusung Outer Bar Signal-station.
