Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.

Second-class Land.

Weighted with £50, valuation for kauri and rimu timber. Altitude, from 200 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Broken and undulating country, with a small kohekohe flat; about 50 acres fern, balance mixed forest, comprising dead and green kauri-trees, totara, rimu, puriri, kahikatea, miro, mahoe, taraire, kohekohe, towai, and rewarewa, with medium undergrowth of kuriwao, toikiwi, and pungas; soil of medium quality, on clay and papa formation; well watered. Distant about eleven miles from Mangonui—three miles metalled road, five miles bridle-track, balance as yet unformed.

HOKIANGA COUNTY.—WAOKU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, from 900 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. Broken land, covered with mixed forest, comprising towai, rata, rimu, and tawa; dense undergrowth of bush-ferns; soil of fair second-class quality, stony in places, on sandstone formation; fairly watered by small streams and springs. Fronts main Kaihu-Taheke Road, about twelve miles from Taheke.

HOKIANGA COUNTY.—WAIPouA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 700 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea-level. Mostly undulating, with level patches on spurs; somewhat broken towards stream; about 45 acres bush felled and now partly overgrown; about 200 acres previously felled but now entirely overgrown; balance mixed forest, comprising rimu, kahikatea, birch, taraire, tawa, totara, towai, miro, pukatea, with undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, toetoe, and ferns; soil loam and clay; fair grass land, stony in parts, on sandstone formation; watered by springs and small streams. Situated about eleven miles from Kaihu Railway-station by dray-road.

Undulating and broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, and hinau, with thick undergrowth of mahoe, supplejack, and keikei; soil of fair quality, light brown and grey papa on limestone and sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Fronts Ngapenga Road, about thirty miles from Te Kuiti by formed dray-road.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and nine, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as it contains, or is supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—WHANGAREI COUNTY.—HIKURANGI PARISH.

Second-class Land.

Altitude, from 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; about 12 acres mixed forest, comprising towai, taraire, manuka, and birch, with mixed undergrowth of fern scrub, supplejack, and keikei; balance fern, manuka, and old kauri workings; soil mixed loam and clay, inferior to fair in quality, on sandstone formation; watered by small water-course. Distant about two miles from Hikurangi Railway-station by unformed road.
