2nd Paper.—200 marks—2 hours.
Combined Training, 1905. Elementary questions on Chapters iv and vi.
3rd Paper, for Engineers (Field and Fortress Companies only).—200 marks—2 hours.
Elementary examination in Manual of Military Engineering, Part I, Chapters i to x, and xiii.
Practical and Oral Examination.
(a.) 100 marks.
Squad and Company Drill (Infantry Training).
(b.) 100 marks.
Tactical handling of a section of at least twenty-five men.
(c.) 100 marks.
Care of arms; mechanism of the rifle; elementary musketry exercises (Appendix, Training Manuals, 1905).
(d.) For Engineers (Field and Fortress Companies) extra.—100 marks.—Manual of Military Engineering, Part I, Chapters i to x, and xiii.

Written Examination.
1st Paper.—200 marks—2 hours.
Field sketching (Manual of Map Reading and Field Sketching, 1906), tactics and military engineering, map-reading, scales, use of compass, attack and defence of a house, post, or position: A simple problem of tactics, engineering, and topography combined, entailing the employment of all arms.
2nd Paper.—100 marks—2 hours.
Military Law and the King’s Regulations as laid down for lieutenants before promotion to captain in King’s Regulations, Appendix XI, (d), (ii). (Manual of Military Law and King’s Regulations allowed for this examination.)
3rd Paper (Horse, Field, Mountain, and Heavy Artillery).—200 marks—2 hours.
Principles of employment of artillery in the field (Field Artillery Training or Garrison Artillery Training, Vol. ii), its technical management (Handbook of the Gun), horse-master ship for Horse and Field Artillery (Animal Management).
3rd Paper (Garrison Artillery).—200 marks—2 hours.

3rd Paper (for candidates for Engineers, Field and Fortress Companies).—200 marks—2 hours.

The general system of organization of the army. The system of command, organization, discipline, and administration of a squadron, battery, or company in peace and in war.
(b.) 100 marks.
Appendix XI, (b), King’s Regulations, 1908, Drill and Field Training.
(c.) 100 marks.
Duties in the field, as applicable to each arm. Marches, outposts, map-reading, reconnaissances (including rough field sketches), attack and defence, including engineering details contained in Part I, Manual of Military Engineering, 1905, with the exception of Chapters xii, xiv, and xvi; and any duty or work which a captain may fairly be called upon to perform in the field.
(d.) Engineers (Field and Fortress Companies) (extra), 100 marks:—
The subject-matter under written examination, 3rd paper (Engineers).
(e.) New Zealand Army Medical Corps (extra):—
(i) 100 marks: Work of Medical Units in the field.
(ii) 100 marks: Sanitation and other duties in barracks, camp, and on the line of march.
(iii) For candidates who have not obtained a “Medical” Certificate A (additional):—
100 marks: Royal Army Medical Corps Training, Part I, Chapters iv, v, vii, viii, Part II, Chapter x.

Map-reading.

- NEW ZEALAND VETERINARY CORPS.

War establishments and organization of field veterinary units. General knowledge of the organization of an army in the field. Military Law and the King’s Regulations as laid down for lieutenants before promotion to captain in Appendix XI, (d), (ii), King’s Regulations.
2nd Paper.—100 marks—2 hours.
The care and management of army animals in barracks, camp, and on the line of march. The special diseases of army animals and their methods of prevention.
Oral Examination.
(a.) 100 marks.
The organization, care, and management of large bodies of sick animals.
(b.) 100 marks.
The methods of dealing with outbreaks of epizootic diseases.
(c.) 100 marks.
Sanitation.
