Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Horowhenua County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Result of Poll.

PUBLIC notice is hereby given that at a poll of the ratepayers taken on the 3rd day of July, 1909, upon a proposal by this Council to raise a loan of £4,000 for the construction of the Buckley–Koputarua Road, the following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 107 votes; against the proposal, 267 votes; informal, 6 votes.

As a majority of the votes were recorded against the proposal, I declare it to be rejected.

WAIMARINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of a Poll on Loan.

In the matter of “The Counties Act, 1908,” “The Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and the amendments thereof.

I HEREBY give public notice that at a poll of the electors of the Raetihi Township Streets No. 2 Special-rating District, taken on the 28th day of December, 1908, on the proposal of the Waimarino County Council to raise a special loan of £1,050 over the Raetihi Township Streets No. 2 Special-rating District, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” for the following purposes: For forming and metalling Ward Street from Ranfurly Terrace to Grey Street, and for forming footpaths in Ward Street from Ranfurly Terrace to Queen Street, £650; for forming and metalling Duncan Street from Ranfurly Terrace to Grey Street, £280; and for forming Pitt Street from the Mill Road to Duncan Street, £120. Also to pay out of loan-moneys the first year’s interest of the loan and the cost of raising the loan. The loan is for a period of forty-one years, and will bear interest at the rate of 3½ per cent. per annum, to be secured by an annually recurring special rate of 3d. in the pound on all the rateable property within the Raetihi Townships Streets No. 2 Special-rating District.

The following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 17 votes; against the proposal, 1 vote; informal, 0 votes: total, 18 votes.

As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

SPRING CREEK ROAD BOARD.

In the matter of “The Road Boards Act, 1908,” “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” and Acts amending the same.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 21st day of June, 1909, a proposal was submitted by the Spring Creek Road Board to the ratepayers of the district for the raising of a special loan of £1,500 for the rebuilding the Wairau Traffic-bridge, and that the number of votes recorded for and against the proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 71; against the proposal, 0.

And I declare the said proposal to be carried.

RIVER HUGLI.—SAUGOR ISL. LT.—This F. fl. white lt. every 20 secs. (21° 39′ N., 88° 2′ E.) has been replaced by a fl. white lt. every 3 secs.—fl. 3/10 sec., ecl. 27/10 secs. In other respects unaltered. May.

COCO ISLANDS.—TABLE ISL. LT.—About 20th May to 9th June, 1909, this F. white lt. (14° 11′ N., 93° 22′ E.) is to be replaced by a temp. F. white lt. exh. from the lantern of the lt.-h. during the est. of a gp. fl. white lt. with a gp. of 2 fls. every 10 secs. A blue flare will also be shown from the gallery of the lt.-h. every half-hour during the above period. May.

CHINA SEA, ETC.

HAI TAN STRAIT.—The s.s. “Kutsang” is reported to have struck a rk., carrying about 7 ft., in 25° 15⅓′ N., 119° 40¼′ E., about 6 cables N. 67° E. from the ern. islet of Double Yit, srn. entr. to the strait. May.

MIN RIVER ENTR.—Owing to the shoaling of the river between Nos. 1 (26° 5¼′ N., 119° 47¼′ E.) and 2 fairway buoys, and also inside of No. 3 fairway buoy, vessels drawing more than 23½ ft. should not attempt to enter the Port of Foochow. It is anticipated that increased depth will be obtained during the S.W. monsoon. May.

CHINGKIANG DISTRICT.—Rosina Rk. lt.-boat has been moved 1 cable E., and now lies in 27 ft., about 2 cables S.S.E. from Rosina Rk. May.

NEW GUINEA.

MATY ISL.—The s.s. “Cape Corso,” when approaching Maty Isl. from the N.-wrd., obser. 2 rks. proj., with patches of broken water between and in their vicinity, in 1° 31′ S., 142° 40′ E. Two rks. have been chartered in this position, marked “Rks. reported, 1909 (position approx.).” May.

FIJI ISLANDS.

BAYONNAISE BANK.—On the 18th Dec., 1908, the German training-ship “Herzogin Sophie Charlotte” crossed this bank under favourable condition of wind and sea, with good obsers. for position, and found the bank to extend from 11° 58′ S., 179° 32′ W., where 25 fms. was obtained, to 12° 6′ S., 179° 44′ W. Soundings were taken every 5 miles, and the least depth found was 25 fms., coral btm. The original sounding of 16 fms. in 12° 8′ S., 179° 43′ W., is retained on the charts. Position, S. end of bank, 12° 6′ S., 179° 44′ W. May.

TONGA OR FRIENDLY ISLANDS.

In Dec., 1908, the schr. “Elfriede” passed several patches of discoloured water in 17° 31′ S., 173° 55′ W., nrd. of the Tonga Isl. A note, “Discoloured water (‘Elfriede,’ 1908),” has been charted in the above position. May.
