Defining Greymouth Extended River Limits for Tugs and Dredges.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 189 of “The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908,” I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Marine, do hereby define the Greymouth restricted limits within which extended river tugs and dredges not carrying passengers and propelled by steam, gas, oil, fluid, electricity, or any mechanical power other than steam, may ply, to be within a circle of ten nautical miles radius from the signal-flagstaff at Greymouth.

As witness my hand, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine.

Amending Regulations for Examination of Engineers.

———

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the fourteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seven, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 33, of the twentieth day of the same month, regulations for the conduct of the examination of engineers were made :

And whereas it is desirable to revoke certain of the said regulations and to alter and add to others :

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Marine, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 23 of “The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, do hereby revoke clauses 27, paragraph (b) of clause 42, and clause 43 of the said regulations of the fourteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seven, and do hereby make Regulation 11 (a), the alterations in Regulations 26, 30, and 44 (k), and the alterations in and additions to the elementary questions in Appendix B to such regulations as set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

  1. (a.) CANDIDATES who have neglected to join their vessels after having signed articles, or have deserted their vessels after having joined, or who have been found guilty of mis-

conduct on board, will be required to produce satisfactory proof of two years’ subsequent service and good conduct at sea, unless the Marine Department, after having investigated the matter, should see fit to reduce the time.

Regulation 26. After the word “tug-boats” in the second line insert the words “and in sea-going pilot-vessels when on their station or when going to or returning from the same.”

Regulation 30. Before the words “Chief engine-room artificers” insert the words “Artificer engineers.”

Regulation 44 (k). In the fourth line delete the words “and cube.”

ELEMENTARY QUESTIONS, APPENDIX B.

  1. Substitute the word “jet” for the word “common.”

  2. After the word “stopped” insert the words “in harbour.”

  3. Delete the words “What is a great drawback to the use of these valves?” and substitute therefor the words “Have they any advantages compared with a common slide-valve?” If so, name them.”

  4. Before the word “actual” insert the word “true.”

  5. After the figures “212°” insert the word “Fahrenheit.”

  6. Delete the word “the” before the word “draught,” and substitute the words “forced or induced.”

  7. After the word “fitted” insert the words “in a water-tube boiler.”

  8. After the word “power” insert the words “in a steam turbine.”

  9. Add the words “in a steam turbine.”

  10. Delete the word “Yes,” and substitute therefor the word “so.”

  11. After the word “valves” insert the words “of a cold-air machine.”

  12. Delete the word “to.”

  13. Delete the word “insulated” in the second line.

  14. After the word “material” insert the words “in a filter.”

  15. Add the words “in an evaporator.”

  16. Before the word “coil” insert the word “evaporator.”

  17. Before the word “circuit” insert the word “electric.”

  18. Delete the word “from.”

Forbidding Money-order and Postal Correspondence for Albert H. Postel, New York and Fort Lee.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the person whose name and addresses are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in a fraudulent business or undertaking, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of “The Post and Telegraph Act, 1908,” that no money-order in favour of the said person shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to the said person (either by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or to either of such addresses without a name, shall be either registered, forwarded, or delivered by the Post Office of New Zealand.
