forestalled in any manner, and the receipt of each of the
assignors shall be the only receipt of quitance to be accepted
by the said Henry Cheetham Jackson.
“5. Trustee to secure such reserves for the use of assign-
ors, as may be agreed upon between them.
“6. That the trustee shall take immediate steps to obtain
possession of and titles to any lands or interests in lands
belonging to the assignors or any of them, so that all the
properties of the assignors may be gathered into one hand
and administered in one trust.
“7. The trustee shall render yearly accounts on the 31st
day of December in each and every year.
“8. The balance of annual profits over and above all
necessary payments shall be expended on such improvements
as the trustee may decide.
“9. The trustee to obtain, in addition to the reserves
required in Repongaere and Pukepapa, four draught horses
and two hacks for Hetekia te Kani Pere and Moanaroa Pere,
for their own use in the management and working of the said
reserves, but not for the purpose of sale to other people.
“10. The trustee shall as soon as possible raise money
upon the security of the trust estate, or some portion or
portions thereof, to pay all claims which have been or may
hereafter be made against the assignors or any of them, and
which the assignors or the majority of them certify in
writing to be correct, subject to such claim being in exist-
ence at the date of the deed.
“11. If the beneficiaries for whose occupation the reserves
hereinbefore mentioned are made, or either of them, incur
liabilities which by any possibility may become a charge
upon the trust estate, or any part thereof, or any interest
therein, the trustee may resume possession of the reserve
occupied by such beneficiary and determine the occupation
of such beneficiary in the same.
“12. Neither the assignors nor any of them shall incur
debts or liabilities which may become a charge upon the
trust estate, or any part thereof, or interest therein, and the
trustee shall not be bound or permitted to recognise or dis-
charge any such liabilities if made by the assignors or any
one of them.
“13. This deed and the provisions thereof may be from
time to time altered or amended by the parties hereto, in
writing, signed before a Judge of the Native Land Court.

te Kani Pere, and Moanaroa Pere (Manaro Pere), the deed
having been first read over and translated and explained to
them in the Maori language by Henry Raumoa Huatahi
Balneavis, a licensed interpreter of the first grade, in my
presence, under the provisions of the 24th section of ‘The
Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act,
1906.’ We, the undersigned, certify that before the docu-
ment was signed there was indorsed thereon a statement in
the Maori language, certified by the said licensed inter-
preter as correctly setting forth the effect of the said
document, and that neither of us are concerned in the
transaction.

with Mr. Henry Cheetham Jackson, so that they may act
jointly as trustees in lieu of Mr. Walter George Foster; and
I, the said Hetekia te Kani Pere, accept the said appoint-
ment.

IN exercise and pursuance of the power and authority
conferred by “The Defence Act, 1908” (hereinafter
termed “the said Act”), His Excellency the Right Honour-
able William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand, doth hereby constitute and
appoint
Lieutenant William Procter, Pahiatua Rifle Volun-
teers;
David Crewe, Esq., Pahiatua;
John Hughes, Esq., Pahiatua;
Walter Morrell, Esq., Pahiatua;
William Tosswill, Esq., Pahiatua; and
William Wakeman, Esq., Pahiatua,
to be Trustees of all that area in the Wellington Land Dis-
trict, containing 1 rood, more or less, being Lot No. 27 on
deposited plan No. 300, and part of Section No. 17, Block
VIII, Mangahao Survey District, Township of Pahiatua;
together with all buildings erected thereon; to hold the
said several premises for the purpose of maintaining a drill-
shed for Volunteer purposes, and generally for the purposes
of and with the powers conferred by the said Act. And it is
hereby declared that the said Trustees shall be incorporated
under the name of “The Trustees of the Pahiatua Volunteer
Drill-shed Reserve,” and that they shall take office as such
Trustees on the seventeenth day of December, one thousand
nine hundred and eight.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-first day of December, one thousand
nine hundred and eight.

PLUNKET, Governor.
IN exercise and pursuance of the power and authority
conferred by “The Defence Act, 1908” (hereinafter
termed “the said Act”), His Excellency the Right Honourable
William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion
of New Zealand, doth hereby constitute and appoint
Captain Thomas Millar, Active List (Unattached),
Captain Ernest Edward Papprell, Kaiapoi Rifle
Volunteers; and,
Lieutenant Thomas Adkisson Gates, Kaiapoi Rifle
Volunteers,
to be Trustees of all that area in the Canterbury Land Dis-
trict being Reserve No. 270, in the Rangiora Survey Dis-
trict, and containing 134 acres, more or less, situate in the
Mandeville District, on the sandhills, between Kaiapoi and
the sea: bounded on the north by a road to the beach,
a distance of 43 chains 10 links; on the east by a road along
the edge of the sandhills separating this reserve from Sec-
tions Nos. 2397, 2398, 2409, and 993, a distance altogether of
about 31 chains 50 links; on the south by Section No. 1393,
a distance of 45 chains; and on the west by another road
along the edge of the sandhills separating this from Sec-
tion No. 320, a distance of about 32 chains: together with
all buildings erected thereon: to hold the said several
premises for the purpose of maintaining a rifle range for
Volunteer purposes, and generally for the purposes of and
with the powers conferred by the said Act. And it is
hereby declared that the said Trustees shall be incorpo-
rated under the name of “The Trustees of the Kaiapoi Rifle
Range Reserve,” and that they shall take office as such
Trustees on the seventeenth day of December, one thousand
nine hundred and eight.
