Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

TAURANGA COUNTY.—OTAINEWAINUKU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 360 ft. to 1,828 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country; 200 acres fern land in Section 3, and 220 acres fern in Section 4; balance of sections fairly heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, tawhero, rimu, kohekohe, pukatea, manuka, and rata, with heavy undergrowth of supplejack, karamu, raurekau, and horopito. Soil of a light volcanic nature, fair to good in quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by permanent streams. Situated nine to ten miles from Te Puke Township—five miles dray-road, remainder rough track.

TAURANGA COUNTY.—MAKETU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 400 ft. to 1,828 ft. above sea-level. Section 27, about 15 acres fern, remainder fairly easy forest country; Section 28, rough forest country; forest comprises tawa, tawhero, rimu, kohekohe, pukatea, and rata, with heavy undergrowth of supplejack, karamu, raurekau, and horopito. Soil of a light volcanic nature; good on Section 27 and fair on Section 28, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Situated about eight miles from Te Puke Township—five miles by dray-road, remainder rough track.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—ROTORUA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted for milling-timbers as follows: Section 5, about 567,000 sup. feet, £141 15s.; Section 7, about 980,000 sup. feet, £245.

Section 5, about 1,000 ft. above sea-level; Section 7, about 1,400 ft. above sea-level; low undulating hills, with flat valleys, some steep spurs on Section 7; all covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising rimu, hinau, mangeao, miro, matai, pukatea, rewarewa, tanekaha, tawa, and kohekohe; thick undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, makomako, mapau, punga, nikau, and tawhero; soil light and sandy, but of good quality, on pumice formation; Section 5, indifferently watered; Section 7, no water. Situated about twenty-nine miles from Rotorua—about twenty-three miles to Rotorua Post-office, thence by good dray-road.

Altitude, about 1,600 ft. above sea-level. All steep country, broken in parts; good homestead-site on road; covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, mangeao, pukatea, rimu, hinau, miro, mami, rata, rewarewa, tanekaha, and kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, mahoe, punga, nikau, kiekie, horopito, and tawhero. Soil light and sandy, but of fair quality, on pumice formation; well watered by streams. Situated about sixteen miles from Matata—fourteen miles by dray-road, balance bridle-track.

WHAKATANE COUNTY.—ROTORUA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Undulating to broken land; about 40 acres fern and manuka on Section 8; remainder of sections heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rimu, hinau, mangeao, pukatea, rata, rewarewa, and kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, manuka, punga, nikau, kiekie, and tawhero; a few puriri-trees on Section 8. Soil of fair quality, of a sandy nature, on volcanic cement; well watered. Situated on Pikowai Road, fifteen to sixteen miles from Matata, by formed road.

Altitude, 500 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level; Sections 7, 8, and 10, level to undulating land; Section 11, level on west boundary, undulating to broken on east; Section 12, undulating to broken; 20 acres fern and manuka on Section 12; balance of sections covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising rimu, hinau, mangeao, miro, pukatea, matai, rata, tanekaha, rewarewa, kohekohe, and tawa; very thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, mahoe, mapau, punga, tawhero, titoki, and nikau. Soil of a sandy nature, but of good quality, on volcanic cement formation; well watered. Situated on the Rotorua-Manawahe Road, ten to twelve miles from Matata, by good dray-road.

Soil light and sandy, but of good quality, on pumice formation; no water. Situated twenty-seven to twenty-nine miles from Rotorua—over twenty-three miles by coach-road to Rotorua Post-office, thence by good dray-road.

WHAKATANE COUNTY.—ROTORUA SURVEY DISTRICT.
