Volunteer Regulations amended.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by “The Defence Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby revoke and amend, in the manner and to the extent set forth in the Schedule hereto, such of the General Regulations of the Defence Forces of New Zealand, made on the eighth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and six, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the same date, with amendments thereto, as are set forth in the said Schedule, and do hereby also make the additional regulations set out in such Schedule. And I do hereby declare that such revocation shall take effect, and such amendments and additional regulations shall come into force, on the fourth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

SCHEDULE.

  1. THE following regulations, including all amendments thereof heretofore made, are hereby amended as set forth hereunder:—

Regulation 3 with its amendments is hereby further amended by the addition, after “(c.) Company Establishment for New Zealand Engineers,” of the following:—

“(c.) (a.) Railway Pioneer Volunteers.

“Company Establishment.

Captain. Lieutenants. Colour-Sergeant. Sergeants. Corporals. Privates. Bugler. Officers. N.C.O.s and Men. Total.

“The qualifications for capitation, personal payments, and badges, and also the annual allowance of ammunition, and orders of dress, will be the same as required for infantry.”

Battalion Bands.

Regulation 3, (k), is hereby amended by adding the following words after the last paragraph:—

“In cases where the bandmaster of a battalion or half-battalion band has been seven years in charge of the band, and is efficient, he may be granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant.”

Regulation 4 as remade on 1st July, 1907, is hereby further amended by the addition of the words “Railway Pioneer Volunteers,” immediately following after the words “Engineers (Field)” in subsection (c).

The following new regulation is hereby added after Regulation 57:—

“57A. A free issue of regulation field service uniform will be made to each Sergeant-Major Instructor every third year.

“Saddlery will be issued on charge to each Mounted Rifle Instructor.”

Regulation 97 as amended on the 27th May, 1907, is hereby further amended by adding the words “and allowances” after the word “passages” on line 16, and also by adding, after the word “classes” at end of regulation, the words “In special cases where it is not possible for officers or non-commissioned officers to devote the whole time to be present at Classes of Instruction, and which necessitates their being absent from home during night-time, a reasonable allowance, not exceeding in the aggregate in any case the daily allowance laid down in Regulation 101, may be granted for a meal and bed on all such occasions, but permission to attend such classes must previously be obtained.”

Regulation 108 is hereby amended by omitting the words “Notes from Lectures by Lieut.-Colonel R. H. Owen,” and substituting therefor the words “Instructions for Mobilisation, N.Z. Defence Forces, 1908 (Provisional).”
