ing purposes. There are about 15 acres of good flat land
along the banks of Tidal Creek and fronting Main Road;
the balance is suitable for pastoral purposes when cleared
and grassed. Sedimentary marine formation. Situated on
the Karamea–Mokihinui Main Road, about twelve miles and
a half from Karamea Settlement, two miles and a half of
the distance being by dray-road to Little Wanganui School,
near the sea-beach; the remainder by sea-beach. This
land can also be reached by steamer trading from Westport
to the Little Wanganui River, a distance of about thirty-
five miles, and thence by sea-beach and dray-road about
four miles.

Opening Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection on
Renewable Lease.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William
Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New
Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in
this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four
of the said Act, do hereby declare that the rural lands de-
scribed in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection
on Thursday, the twenty-first day of January, one thousand
nine hundred and nine; and also that the lands men-
tioned in the said Schedule may be selected on renewable
lease only, in accordance with the provisions of section
one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as they contain,
or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable
stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said
lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule
hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased
under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
Nuggety Block comprises the land lying on both banks of
Nuggety Creek, a tributary of the Buller River, and extend-
ing in a north-westerly direction from Braeburn Settlement
for a distance of about four miles and a half towards the
confluence of the Owen River with the Buller River. The
block is approached from the Town of Murchison by two
routes, one eight miles and a half, of which three miles
is by main coach-road, four miles by formed bridle-track,
and one mile and a half by unformed road up Nuggety
Creek; the other sixteen miles and a half, of which
nine miles is by formed road and seven miles and a half
by unformed road intersecting Braeburn Settlement. The
country is well watered and forest-clad, the principal
timbers being red and brown birch, with some scattered
pine and mountain-totara, and a good undergrowth of mixed
scrub. The formation is calcareous shale and sandstone on
decomposed granite and micaceous schist with bands of
conglomerate. There are some narrow flats of fairly good
soil along the branches of Nuggety Creek. Each subdivision
contains a homestead-site. Altitude varies from about
900 ft. to 2,800 ft. above sea-level. The climate of this por-
tion of the Central Buller District is moderate. Grass
grows luxuriantly when the forest has been cleared, and so
far as country in the vicinity has been tested it has proved
excellent for sheep-raising purposes. The Town of Mur-
chison contains all the requirements of a rising township.
There are two hotels, places of worship, stores, post and
telegraph office, and public school.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Nelson Land District
for Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion
of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national en-
dowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be
open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the
twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand nine hundred
and nine, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule;
and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased
under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
This block is situated in the valleys of the Wangamoa and
Collins Rivers. The south-west end of the block is distant
about twenty miles from Nelson via the main Nelson–Blen-
heim Road and a proposed road up the River Wangamoa,
and about ten miles from the nearest school, which is near
the foot of the Wangamoa Hill and on the Nelson side
thereof. The country comprises hilly, well watered, forest
land, covered for the most part with vegetation varying
from light scrub to mixed bush, the latter being chiefly
birch, with an undergrowth varying from very light to
dense. The soil varies from fair to good. Formation is
chiefly slate, with outcrops of serpentine rocks. Altitude
varies from about 300 ft. to about 2,800 ft. on the back
range. There are no flats of any extent on the block, but
there are sites suitable for homesteads towards the northern
end at Dencker’s Creek and Elizabeth Creek. Access from
the main coach-road will be by roads at present unformed
running up the Wangamoa River, Graham’s Creek, and
Blunder Creek, and up Dencker’s Creek and Elizabeth
Creek from the road along the Wangamoa River to the
northward of Bird’s Accommodation-house. There is a
telephone bureau at Bird’s Accommodation-house, near the
centre of the block, distant about twenty-four miles from
Nelson.

Selection.

conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion
of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-
Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred
and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the
land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for
sale or selection on Friday, the eighth day of January,
one thousand nine hundred and nine; and also that
the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the
option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be
selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renew-
able lease; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the
said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in
the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land
shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the
provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”
