Soil of good quality, on sandstone formation. Well watered by stream. Fronts the Opotiki—Otara dray-road. About ten miles from Opotiki.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Whangarei County.—Mangakahia Survey District.

Altitude, from 400 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; fern and tea-tree. Soil, loam and clay, rather inferior, on sandstone formation. Watered by small streams. Situated about twenty miles from Whangarei, and three miles from Aponga Post-office by dray-road.

Mangonui County.—Takahue Survey District.

Rather broken country, covered with mixed forest, comprising totara, rimu, ruriri, kahikatea, matai, kohekohe, towai, rata, and tawa, with light undergrowth of kiekie, kuriwao, toikiwi, and ferns. Soil, a yellow clay, of fair second-class quality, on sandstone formation. Well watered. Distant about twenty-two miles from Mangonui—twenty miles metalled road to Fairburn’s Post-office, thence one mile and a half by formed bridle-track, and one mile by graded road as yet unformed.

Hokianga County.—Waipoua Survey District.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Broken, stony land; very steep. About 37 acres bush, felled and grassed; balance mixed forest, comprising taraire, rata, kohekohe, kahikatea, and some scattered kauri and totara timber of no commercial value; dense undergrowth of nikau and bush ferns. Soil fair to medium second-class quality. Well watered. Situated about twelve miles from Kaihu Railway-station by formed road.

Rotorua County.—Maketu Survey District.

Altitude, from 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken fern country; flat-topped spurs, and flat valleys covered with fern, koromiko, and tutu. Soil light, but of fair quality, on volcanic formation. Well watered by stream. Situated about thirty-two miles from Rotorua—twenty-three miles and a half by main Rotorua—Whakatane Road to Rotoma Post-office, thence by good dray-road to section.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Soil of medium quality, on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about eighteen miles from Kihikihi—ten miles formed road, balance track along which a cart can be taken.
