Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, William Hall-Jones, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 8th October, 1908:—
PART III.—GOODS: REGULATIONS.

REGULATION 44, DEPASTURING STARVING STOCK.
- Starving stock sent from Central Otago and Taieri County certified on the outward journey as for depasturing owing to severity of weather will on return journey be conveyed free of charge from the original destination station to the original forwarding station provided that no portion of the consignment has been sold, exchanged, or otherwise disposed of, provided—
(a.) That the consignment note for the outward journey is indorsed with the following certificate: “I hereby certify that the stock entered hereon are being sent for depasturing purposes only.”
(b.) On the return journey a declaration must be made in the following form:—
“I hereby certify that the stock entered on the consignment note attached hereto were consigned from .. to .. for depasturing purposes only on .., 1908, and are now being returned. I also certify that no portion of the stock has been sold, exchanged, or otherwise disposed of.”
Hay, straw, chaff, grain, turnips, green fodder, ensilage, molasses, molasses fodder, and sucrosine purchased and to be used exclusively for keeping alive stock starving by reason of the severity of the weather will be carried free to stations in Central Otago and Taieri County affected by the severe weather on production by the consignor of a declaration in the following form:—
“I hereby certify that the (a) .. consigned by me from (b) .. to (c) .. has been purchased and is to be immediately used by the consignee solely for the purpose of keeping alive his own stock starving by reason of the recent severe weather, that the fodder is not for sale or storage, and that the price charged to the owners of the stock for the fodder specified hereon does not exceed the price charged on 1st July, 1908.
(a) Insert here particulars of fodder. (b) Station from. (c) Name of consignee and station to.

REGULATION 44, DEPASTURING STARVING STOCK.
- Stock sent by rail for depasturing from Central Otago and Taieri County on the conditions appearing in the New Zealand Gazette of 30th July, 1908, will on return journey be conveyed free of charge from the original destination station to the original forwarding station provided that no portion of the consignment has been sold, exchanged, or otherwise disposed of, and a declaration is made in the following form:—
“I hereby certify that the stock entered on the consignment note attached hereto were consigned from .. to .. for depasturing purposes only on .., 1908, and are now being returned. I also certify that no portion of the stock has been sold, exchanged, or otherwise disposed of.”
This regulation expires on 31st October, 1908.

Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road through Block XIII, Nukumaru Survey District, Waitotara County.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road through Block XIII, Nukumaru Survey District, Waitotara County, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the said road and of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Maxwelltown, and is there open for inspection. And notice is also hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister in Charge of Roads Department, Wellington.
