Notice is hereby given that at an early date acetylene gas
will be substituted for oil as the illuminant at the East
Channel pile light in this port, and that on and after the
1st October next the colour of this light will be changed
from orange to green.

PORT OF GEELONG (HOPETOUN CHANNEL).

In connection with the dredging operations now in progress
in this channel, two (2) single piles will be driven 60 ft.
north of the line of the red or starboard-hand beacons.
Such piles are intended for dredging marks only.

INDIAN OCEAN.

Bay of Bengal.

ARAKAN RIVER APPROACH.—Oyster Reef beacon, in 20° 5′ N.,
92° 39′ E., in the approach to the river, is in a damaged
condition, and may disappear. “Damaged” has been charted
against this beacon. July.

ZALLATAUNG ISL.—On 21st May, 1908, the F. red lt. (U)
in 18° 32′ N., 94° 14′ E., on the W. pt. of the isl., off the
entr. to Sandoway River, was to be disc. July.

RAMREE HARB. APPROACH.—A small volcanic isl., a narrow
strip of mud, 1 ft. above H.W., formed on 20th April, 1908,
in 18° 21′ N., 93° 56′ E., 5¾ miles S. 20° E. from centre of
Unguan Isl. Around this new isl. the volcano is in an
active state, throwing up mud and water to 40 ft. above
the sea. It is improbable that this formation will remain
vis. at H.W. for any length of time. Also, a small active
mud volcano of recent formation, carrying 3¼ fms., exists in
18° 18′ N., 94° 14′ E., 4⁴⁄₁₀ miles S. 88° W. from Money Pt.,
in the srn. approach to the harb. July.

MOULMEIN RIVER ENTR.—Green Isl. lt. (16° 4′ N., 97° 33′
E.), entr. to the river, is fl. white every 15 secs.—fl. 3 secs.,
ecl. 12 secs.—and not occ. as prev. notified. July.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.

Sumatra West.

LANGKAT RIVER ENTR.—The lt.-buoy in 4° 4′ N., 98° 29′ E.,
in the inlet off the river entr., has been altered in colour
from red and black hor. to white. July.

SELÁNGOR LT.—About 1st July, 1908, this F. white lt.
(3° 20½′ N., 101° 14¾′ E.) is to be replaced by an occ. white
lt., vis. 27 secs., ecl. 3 secs., elev. 244 ft., R. 19 miles, exh.
from a white cyl. iron lt.-h. on concrete pedestal 90 ft. high.
July.

SINGAPORE MAIN STRAIT.—KEPPEL HARB. APPROACH.—A
bank carrying 7 fms. exists in 1° 15¾′ N., 103° 47′ E., in the
wrn. approach to the harb., 11¼ miles S. 36° W. from the
Beriberi Hospital pier-head. “Position approx.” has been
charted against this danger. July.

Java.

INDRAMAYU.—A lt.-buoy, red and black hor., exh. an occ.
white lt., vis. 10 secs., ecl. 10 secs., is est. in 5 fms., in
6° 14½′ S., 108° 14′ E., in the W. road. July.

Lt.-buoys have been placed in connection with current
obsers. on either side of the leading-line at the entr. to W.
gat, Surabaya: West gat pilot vessel, 6° 52′ S., 112° 43¾′ E.
The positions of the above buoys are not given. Mariners
are therefore cautioned not to deviate from the leading-line.

CHINA SEA, ETC.

YANG TSE KIANG.—S. CHAN. APPROACH.—The bell buoy
marking the shoal water extending from Yang tse Cape has
been replaced by a conical bell buoy surm. by a black spher.
cage, moored in 12 ft., in 30° 54¾′ N., 122° 2′ E., 9⁸⁄₁₀ miles
N. 44° W. from Gutzlaff Lt.-h. July.

The occ. red lt. (36° 3¼′ N., 120° 18¾′ E.) on Arkona Isl.
has been replaced by 2 provis. F. green lts., vert., elev. 79 ft.
and 69 ft., R. 2 miles, exh. from the lt.-h. July.

PACIFIC OCEAN.

HAWAII.—KEALAKEKUA BAY.—About 1st July, 908, a F.
white lt., Napupu lt., elev. 90 ft., is to be exh. from a grey
mast on a small white house with red roof, 40 ft. high, in
19° 28¾′ N., 156° 2¾′ W., about 1⁶⁄₁₀ cables S.W. of Cook’s
Monument, probably replacing the occasional red lt. July.

NORTH AMERICA.—WEST COAST.

CAPE BEALE LT.-H.—On 15th June, 1908, a fog-diaphone
horn, worked by compressed air, sounding 1 blast every
94 secs.—blast 4 secs., silence 90 secs.—was to be est. in a
white house with red roof in front of the lt.-h. (48° 47½′ N.,
125° 13½′ W.). July.

PACHENA (BEEGHADOSS) PT.—About 1st July, 1908, a
group-fl. white lt., showing a group of 2 fls. every 7½ secs.—
fl. ⁵⁄₁₀ sec., ecl. 1³⁄₁₀ secs., fl. ⁵⁄₁₀ sec., ecl. 5³⁄₁₀ secs.—elev. 200 ft.,
R. 20 miles, is to be exh. from a white lt.-h. with red lantern,
66 ft. high, in 48° 43¾′ N., 125° 6¼′ W., on the pt. Also, on
1st June the fog-sig. on the pt. was to be altered to sound
2 blasts every 96 secs.—blast 3 secs., silence 4 secs., blast
3 secs., silence 86 secs. July.

ADMIRALTY CHARTS that have received large corrections:—

ICE.—On 12th March, 1908, the ship “Glenalvon” saw
2 bergs, one of them about 4 miles long, in 50° 10′ S.,
50° 30′ W. On 13th March the “Loch Torridon” passed 6
large bergs from 1½ to ½ miles in extent and from 500 ft. to
300 ft. high, from 50° S., 45° W., to 47° S., 43° W. June.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—SAN PABLO BAY.—BEACON TO BE
REPLACED BY BUOY.—On 18th June, 1908, San Pablo Bay
dredged channel beacon No. 13, located on the northern side
of the dredged channel across Pinole Shoal, San Pablo Bay,
California, was reported missing. It will be replaced by a
first-class can buoy as soon as practicable.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—SOUTH-WEST COAST.—ESTEVAN
POINT.—INTENDED LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL.—Referring to
Notice to Mariners No. 3 (111) of 1908, the Canadian Go-
vernment has given further notice that a lighthouse is
under construction on the south-western extremity of
Estevan Point (Hole-in-the-Wall), south-west coast of Van-
couver Island.

The light shown from this tower will be a first-order, group-
flashing white light, showing 1 group of 3 flashes every 10
seconds, thus—flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 1·37 seconds; flash
0·3 second, eclipsed 1·37 seconds; flash 0·3 second, eclipsed
6·36 seconds.

A fog-alarm building has been erected at this station, and
during the present year a diaphone operated by compressed
air will be installed.

Further notice giving particulars concerning the light-
house and fog-alarm will be published later.

Approx. position: Lat. 49° 22′ 05″ N., long. 126° 32′ 00″ W.
