Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

About 15 acres undulating land, covered with fern and manuka; balance swamp, easily drainable. Soil of good quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by Orahiri Stream and swamp. Situated about three miles from Otorohanga Railway-station by surveyed road as yet unformed.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Altitude, about 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Mostly steep hills with some flats; good homestead-site on main road; about 200 acres of light mixed forest in patches, mostly tawa and rewarewa, balance fern hills. Soil light and sandy, on pumice formation; well watered. Fronts Whakatane-Rotorua coach-road, about seven miles from Te Teko and twelve miles from Matata.

Altitude, about 900 ft. above sea-level. Mostly flat-topped spurs and flat valleys; very broken about Waitahanui Stream; good homestead-site on road; a few small patches of scrubby bush, mostly tawa and rewarewa, with thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, kotukutuku, and wharangi; balance of section covered with manuka, koro-miko, tutu, and fern. Soil light and sandy of fair quality, on pumice formation; well watered. Access from Rotorua, thirty-one miles distant—twenty-three miles by coach-road, balance by formed road 14 ft. wide. Access also from Matata, fourteen miles distant, but seven miles of this road is as yet unformed.

ROTORUA COUNTY.—ROTORUA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, from 1,050 ft. to 1,250 ft. above sea-level. All fern land; undulating and low hills; a little broken in the north-east corner. Soil of a light volcanic nature of fair quality, on an igneous formation; well watered. Situated about twelve miles from Rotorua—three-quarters of a mile by branch road formed for wheel traffic, balance by main coach-road from Tauranga to Rotorua.

Undulating to broken land, mostly covered with fern and tea-tree, with a few small patches of mixed forest in gullies; soil inferior on tops of spurs, but improves near banks of streams; fairly well watered by small streams. Situated from four to seven miles from Tahuna by road, of which the portion passing through Native land (about three miles in length) is as yet unformed.
