Altitude, from 150 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. About 40 acres swamp, covered with rushes, flax, and raupo; about 30 acres scattered patches of light bush, comprising tawa, rimu, rewarewa, and puriri, with open undergrowth of supplejack; balance fern and manuka scrub, half broken and half undulating. Soil, a heavy clay, generally inferior (except swamps), on clay subsoil; fairly well watered by stream and swamps. Situated about one mile south of Maramarua Store and post-office, on the road to Waerenga, and about eighteen miles from Pokeno Railway station by formed road.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Westland Land District for Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and eight, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892,” and the National Endowment Act, 1907.

Grouped with Section 2607. Altitude, from 20 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Comprises terraces and gullies, of gravel formation, covered with bush, with dense undergrowth. Two gullies, flat at the bottom, are estimated to contain about 100 acres of good land, which will eventually be ploughable. Creeks are small and not liable to scour. Access by Barrytown-Brighton Road, which is formed for horse traffic. Twenty-two miles from Greymouth, and five miles from Barrytown.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Grey County.—Punakaiki Survey District.
