mentioned, for the purpose of inquiring into the desirable-
ness or otherwise of constituting one or more united drainage
districts in lieu of the four existing districts, such united
district or districts to include the whole or any portion of
the land comprised in the existing districts, and also such
other land (if any) outside the boundaries of the existing
districts as may be found to be desirable, and of formulating,
if practicable, a comprehensive scheme of drainage for the
Pohangina, Oroua, and Manawatu Rivers within the
Manawatu, Kairanga, and Oroua Counties:
And whereas it is expedient to enlarge the scope of the
aforesaid inquiry by including within the area for which a
comprehensive scheme of drainage is to be formulated all
that further area drained by the said rivers within the
Kiwitea, Pohangina, and Horowhenua Counties, and the
Boroughs of Palmerston North, Foxton, and Feilding:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
thereof, and in exercise and pursuance of every power and
authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby extend the
scope of the inquiry to include the subject of the drainage of
the Pohangina, Oroua, and Manawatu Rivers within the
Counties of Kiwitea, Pohangina, and Horowhenua, and the
Boroughs of Palmerston North, Foxton, and Feilding.
And with the like advice and consent, and in further
pursuance of the said power and authority, I do hereby
confirm the said Commission except as altered by these
presents.

Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Go-
vernor and Commander-in-Chief in and over

said Dominion, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this fourth day of August, in the
year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and

Appointment of Trustees, Cambridge Volunteer Drill-shed
Reserve.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN exercise and pursuance of the power and authority
conferred by “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands
Act, 1888,” “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands Trustees
Validation Act, 1890,” and the Defence Act Amendment
Act, 1907 (hereinafter termed “the said Acts”), His Excel-
lency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket,
the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, doth hereby
constitute and appoint :
Acting-Major ALLEN BELL, 2nd Regiment, Auckland
Mounted Rifle Volunteers;
Captain HENRY JOHN CLIFFORD, Active List (Un-
attached); and
Captain WILLIAM ROBERT COOPER WALKER, No. 3
Squadron, Waikato Mounted Rifle Volunteers,
to be Trustees of all that piece or parcel of land in the
Auckland Land District, containing by admeasurement
2 acres, more or less, being Sections Nos. 28 and 29, Town
of Cambridge East; together with all buildings erected
thereon; to hold the said several premises for the purpose
of maintaining a drill-shed for Volunteer purposes, and
generally for the purposes of and with the powers conferred
by the said Acts. And it is hereby declared that the said
Trustees shall be incorporated under the name of “The
Trustees of the Cambridge Volunteer Drill-shed Reserve,”
and that they shall take office as such Trustees on the
twenty-fifth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and
eight.
- As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-eighth day of July, one thousand
nine hundred and eight.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or
Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” and its
amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor
of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report
of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section
one hundred and thirty-six of the said Act, do hereby declare
that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be
open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-third
day of September, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and
also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at
the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be
selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renew-
able lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the
said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in
the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands
shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the
provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Weighted with £601, valuation for improvements, com-
prising 276 acres felled and grassed, 4 chains fencing, 20
chains tracks, garden, buildings, and sawpit.
Situated on Tarere Road at its junction with Ingahape
Road. Access from Mokoia Railway-station, about nine miles
distant—six miles by partly metalled dray-road, remainder
horse-track. Flat-topped ridges near Tarere Road, but very
steep and gorgy along Toroporo and Katoke Streams. The
soil is a loam, on papa formation; well-watered. Fairly
heavy forest, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, kahikatea, with
birch on ridges and top of spurs, and a heavy undergrowth.
WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY.—MAHOE SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on Whangamomona Road, about six miles
from township by formed pack-track. Small flats and fair
slopes along road, but rather rough at the back. Soil fair to
inferior, on papa formation; well watered. Forest consists of
tawa, tow hai, rata, kahikatea, and some rimu, with dense
undergrowth. Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Whangamomona River, and distant from that
township about five miles by formed pack-track. Fair to
steep hillsides; small flats along river. There is a good
homestead-site. The soil is of medium to good quality, on
papa formation; well watered. Fairly heavy forest, com-
prising tawa, tow hai, rimu, kahikatea, and rata, with dense
undergrowth. Elevation, 550 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.

Good flats along road, but rough towards the back. Fair
soil, on papa formation; well watered. The forest comprises
tawa, tow hai, rimu, rata, with birch on spurs. Elevation,
400 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.
CLIFTON COUNTY.—UPPER WAITARA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated at junction of Marco and Mangaowata Roads.
Access from Whangamomona, distant about 10½ miles—
five miles formed and metalled, three miles formed pack-
track, remainder through bush. Fair to steep hillsides,
rather broken on Mangaowata Road. Soil medium to good,
on papa formation; well watered. The forest is fairly
heavy, comprising tawa, rata, tow hai, and some matai and
totara, with heavy undergrowth. Elevation, 500 ft. to
1,000 ft. above sea-level.
