Blocks 1 and 2, Blocks III and IV, Maungaru Survey
District, Hobson County.

PLUNKET, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth
day of July, 1908.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto
are required to be taken for a public work, to wit,
for the purposes of a road in Paerata Blocks 1 and 2,
Blocks III and IV, Maungaru Survey District:
And whereas the said lands are held or occupied by Native
owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown:
And whereas a map in duplicate has been prepared of the
said lands, as required by the eighty-ninth section of "The
Public Works Act, 1905";
Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers
vested in him by the eighty-ninth section of the said Act, and
of all other powers in anyway enabling him in this behalf, His
Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that the
lands shown upon such map, and described in the Schedule
hereto, shall be deemed to be taken for the purposes of the
said road as from the twentieth day of August, one thou-
sand nine hundred and eight.

above mentioned, and deposited in the office of the Chief
Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land

Regulations under the Government Railways Department
Classification Acts, 1901 and 1907.

PLUNKET, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
eighth day of July, 1908.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, in exercise of the powers conferred upon
him by "The Government Railways Department
Classification Act, 1901," and of all other powers and au-
thorities him enabling in this behalf, His Excellency the
Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said Dominion, did, on the eighth day of February, one
thousand nine hundred and six, for the purpose of the
aforesaid Act, make certain regulations (hereinafter referred
to as "the principal regulations"), that were gazetted on
the fifteenth day of February then instant: And whereas it
is expedient to amend those regulations, and to make fresh
regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by the Go-
vernment Railways Department Classification Act, 1907.
Now, therefore, in further exercise of the aforesaid powers,
and of all other powers enabling him in this behalf, His
Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend the prin-
cipal regulations and also makes the additional regulation set
forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth hereby declare that
such amendment and addition shall come into force from the
first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eight:

SCHEDULE.

  1. The age of the applicant at the time of his becoming a
    member shall not be less than the minimum nor greater than
    the maximum following:-
    In the First Division-
    As a cadet .. .. 15 to 17 years last birthday.
    In the Second Division-
    As an apprentice .. .. 15
    As a rivet-boy .. .. 16
    junior porter .. 17 to 18
    surfaceman .. 17 to 18
    striker .. 17 to 18
    machinist .. 17 to 18
    labourer .. 17 to 18
    cleaner .. 17 to 18
    surfaceman .. 23 to 34
    labourer .. 23 to 34
    tradesman .. 23 to 34

  2. Guards, enginemen, and firemen when absent on duty
    from headquarters at night will be paid a night allowance of
    5s. per night where no sleeping-accommodation is provided;
    and where sleeping accommodation is provided, 3s. per night.

  3. (a.) No member shall if he is married, or is a widower
    with a child or children, receive a salary of less than £130
    per annum.
    (b.) No member who is twenty-two years of age or up-
    wards shall receive a salary of less than £100 per annum.
    (c.) For the purpose of giving effect to the two last pre-
    ceding subclauses every such member shall receive by way
    of special family allowance such additional sum as will raise
    the salary to which he is entitled under the Schedule to the
    Government Railways Department Classification Act, 1907,
    to the rate of £130 per annum in case (a), and £100 per
    annum in case (b).
    (d.) Such additional sum shall, in the case of each such
    member, be paid in the same manner and subject to the
    same conditions as his salary under the aforesaid Schedule.
    (e.) The right to such additional sum shall be deemed to
    commence on the date on which the member furnishes to the
    General Manager satisfactory evidence that he possesses the
    qualification entitling him thereto; and the first payment
    shall be made with the first payment of schedule salary after
    that date.

Department of Roads, Wellington; and Charles Rankin
Vickerman, Esq., Superintending Engineer, Public
Works Department, Wellington: Greeting.
WHEREAS by a Commission bearing date the fourteenth
day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eight,
you, the said
ANDREW DUNCAN THOMSON,
WILLIAM STONHAM SHORT,
GEORGE FRANCIS ROBINSON, and
CHARLES RANKIN VICKERMAN,
were appointed to be Commissioners, with the powers therein
