PRIVATE ADVERTISEMENTS.

KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE KAIRANGA County Council, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon it by “The Public Works Act, 1905,” “The Counties Act, 1886,” and its amendments, “The Public Health Act, 1900,” “The Motor Regulation Act, 1906,” and of every other power it thereunto enabling, hereby makes and ordains the following amended by-laws, to come into operation on the 30th day of July, 1908:—

  1. The definition of “heavy traffic” contained in By-law No. 1 of the by-laws of the Kairanga County Council is hereby repealed, and the words “heavy traffic” wherever appearing in any of the said by-laws of the said Kairanga County Council or in these amended by-laws shall, unless inconsistent with the context, mean—

(a.) The transportation of any vehicle, engine, or machine which itself or together with any thing or things being transported thereon weighs more than 1½ tons avoirdupois to each pair of wheels.

(b.) The traction of any vehicle or thing by means of bullocks, notwithstanding that such vehicle or thing may separately or together with any load thereon weigh less than 1½ tons avoirdupois.

(c.) Any traffic which may from time to time be declared to be “heavy traffic” by Order in Council.

  1. By-law No. 46 of the by-laws of the Kairanga County Council and the First and Second Schedules to the said by-laws relating to heavy traffic are hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof it is enacted as follows:—

(a.) For the purpose of the by-laws of the Kairanga County Council and of these amending by-laws the weight of any load of timber, logs, firewood, gravel or broken stone, bricks, wheat, oats, barley, potatoes, lignite or brown coal, whole stone, hemp, earth, or green flax may to the extent to which it shall comprise or consist of any, either, or all of those materials be ascertained by one or other of the methods set out in the Second Schedule hereto as applicable to the particular material or materials comprising such loads.

(b.) The First and Second Schedules to these amending by-laws shall be read in lieu and instead of the said First and Second Schedules repealed as aforesaid, and all references in the said by-laws of the Kairanga County Council to the said repealed Schedules shall in all cases, unless inconsistent with the context, be deemed to refer to and shall apply to the said First and Second Schedules hereto.

(c.) It shall be lawful for any person acting under the authority of the Council, or for any policeman or constable, to stop any cart, dray, wagon, or other vehicle when on any road, and to examine and measure the width of tires of the wheels of such cart, dray, wagon, or other vehicle, and to measure and compute the load on such cart, dray, wagon, or other vehicle on the scale set forth in the said Second Schedule hereto; and every owner or driver or other person in charge of such cart, dray, wagon, or other vehicle after such measuring or examination shall have been lawfully required refusing to permit such measuring or examination or in any other way hindering or obstructing the same shall for such offence be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

WIDTH OF TIRES IN PROPORTION TO LOADS.

On Two Wheels.

For load exceeding 10 cwt. but not exceeding 15 cwt., tires to be not less than 2 in. wide.
For load exceeding 15 cwt. but not exceeding 20 cwt., tires to be not less than 2½ in. wide.
For load exceeding 20 cwt. but not exceeding 25 cwt., tires to be not less than 3½ in. wide.
For loads exceeding 25 cwt. but not exceeding 35 cwt., tires to be not less than 4 in. wide.
For load exceeding 35 cwt. but not exceeding 45 cwt., tires to be not less than 5 in. wide.
For load exceeding 45 cwt. but not exceeding 60 cwt., tires to be not less than 6 in. wide.
For load exceeding 60 cwt. but not exceeding 100 cwt., tires to be not less than 8 in. wide.
No load shall exceed 100 cwt.

And on Four Wheels.

For load exceeding 10 cwt. but not exceeding 20 cwt., tires to be not less than 1¾ in. wide.
For load exceeding 20 cwt. but not exceeding 30 cwt., tires to be not less than 2 in. wide.
For load exceeding 30 cwt. but not exceeding 40 cwt., tires to be not less than 2½ in. wide.
For load exceeding 40 cwt. but not exceeding 60 cwt., tires to be not less than 4 in. wide.
