duly given by notice published in the Wairoa Bell on the 14th, 21st, 28th April, and the 5th, 12th, and 19th May, 1908 (a copy of the said special order having been duly deposited at the office of the Council, as specified in the notification, and having been open to the inspection of the public during office hours for thirty days immediately preceding the subsequent meeting, and notice of such subsequent meeting having been given to each Councillor), and sealed with the common seal of the body corporate called “The Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of Hobson County” on the 21st day of May, 1908:

Whereas by section 44 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and its amendments, it is enacted that, by special order, the Council may at any time, for the purposes of adjustment of representation in the Council when the same is authorised and otherwise from time to time, alter the number of the ridings within the county, subject to the conditions that the number of ridings shall not be more than nine, except in the case of united counties:

Now, it is hereby resolved by the Council of Hobson County that, in exercise and pursuance of the powers in or possessed by the said Council, or by the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and its amendments, and in exercise and pursuance of every other power it hereunto enabling, the Council of Hobson County doth hereby make the following special order, and ordain as follows: That the former ridings of Hobson County—viz., Aratapu, Kopuru, Dargaville, Wairoa, Okahu, Kaihu, and Tangowahine—be altered and resubdivided into eight ridings, with one Councillor to represent each riding; that the said ridings be named respectively Aratapu, Kopuru, Kaihu, Tangowahine, Maungaru, Tangiteroria, Okahu, and Maunganui, and that the boundaries of the said ridings be as follows:—

Aratapu Riding.—Bounded towards the north-west and north generally by the Kaihu Riding and the Dargaville Borough; towards the north-east generally by the Wairoa River to the north-easternmost corner of Section 6 of the Te Kopuru Parish; towards the south-east generally by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 6, 24, 37, and 47 of the said parish; thence by the eastern boundary-line of Section 105 of the said parish; thence by the southern boundary-lines of Sections 105 and 106 of the said parish; thence by the eastern boundary-lines of Sections 107, 119, 120, and 121 of the said parish; thence by part of the southern boundary-line of the said Section 121; thence by the eastern boundary-lines of Sections 122 and 98 of the said parish; thence by the south-eastern boundary-lines of Sections 98, 97, and 93 of the said parish, and by such line continued to the ocean; towards the south-west generally by the ocean to the commencement-point.

Kopuru Riding.—Bounded towards the north-west generally by the Aratapu Riding; towards the north-east generally by the Wairoa River to Pouto; towards the south-east generally by the Kaipara Harbour; and towards the south-west generally by the ocean.

Kaihu Riding.—Commencing at the north-westernmost corner of the Hobson County. Bounded towards the north by the said county-boundary line to its intersection with the eastern boundary-line of Section 10 of Block XV, Tutamoe Survey District; thence towards the east by eastern and north-eastern boundary-lines of Sections 10 and 11 of the said Block XV, also Sections 5, 9, and 13 of Block III, Kaihu Survey District; thence again towards the north by the northern boundary-line of the Waimata Block; thence again towards the east by the eastern boundary-lines (Awakino Creek) of the said Waimata Block to the Borough of Dargaville; thence generally towards the south-east by the said Dargaville Borough and the south-eastern boundary-line of the Kaihu No. 1 Block; thence towards the south-west by the ocean to the commencing-point.

Tangowahine Riding.—Bounded towards the west generally by the Kaihu Riding and the Dargaville Borough; towards the north and north-west by the county boundary to the western boundary-line of the Pariotane Block; towards the north-east generally by the south-eastern boundary-line of the said Pariotane Block and the north-eastern boundary-line of the Te Karaka Block, also part of the south-eastern boundary-line of the said Te Karaka Block to its intersection of the line between Blocks XIII and XIV of Maungaru Survey District; thence by such line to Section 34, Block I, Maungaru; thence by the eastern boundaries of Sections 34, 33, 31, and 38 of the said Block I; thence by the north and eastern boundaries of that part of the Maungaru Block owned by Peter Langton to the Waiaruhe Block; thence by the eastern boundary of the Waiaruhe Block to the Wairoa river; towards the south generally by the Wairoa River to the Awakino Creek.

Maungaru Riding.—Bounded towards the west generally by the Tangowahine Riding; towards the north-west by the remainder of the north-western boundary-line of the Hobson County; towards the north-east and east generally by the county boundary to the junction of the Tangihua Creek with the Wairoa River; thence towards the south-east and south generally by the Wairoa River.

Tangiteroria Riding.—Bounded towards the north-east generally by the remainder of the north-eastern boundary of the Hobson County; towards the east generally by the eastern boundary of the said county; towards the south generally by the said county boundary to the junction of the Tauraroa and Maunganui Rivers, and by the said Maunganui River to the south-eastern corner of the Mangarata Block; towards the west by the western boundary-line of the said Mangarata Block; and towards the north-west generally by the Wairoa River.

Okahu Riding.—Bounded towards the west by the western boundary of the Hobson County; towards the south-east by the south-eastern boundary-line of the said county to its intersection with the Wairoa River; towards the south-west by the said Wairoa River to the centre of the road between Sections 4 and 5 of the Arapohue Parish (Mititai Wharf); towards the north-west generally by the centre of the road fronting Sections 4, 12, 25, 24, 35, and 36 of the Arapohue Parish; thence by the north-western boundaries of Sections 43, 46, and 48 of the said parish; thence by the northern boundaries of Sections 48, 51, and 52 of the said Arapohue parish; thence by the boundary-line between the Arapohue and Okahu Parishes to the Okahu Creek; thence by the Okahu Creek to its junction with the Maunganui River; and towards the north generally by the Maunganui River to the commencement-point.

Maunganui Riding.—Bounded towards the east by the Tangiteroria Riding; towards the south-east generally by the Okahu Riding; towards the west generally by the Wairoa River; and towards the north generally by the Wairoa River to the commencement-point.

That each of the said eight ridings be represented by one Councillor.

That this special order shall take effect on the 1st day of November, 1908.

The common seal of the body corporate called “The Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of Hobson County” was hereunto affixed by direction of the said Council of Hobson County, this 21st day of May, 1908, by T. F. Downs and V. Trounson, two Councillors of the said county, in the presence of—

THE following special order, made by the Eltham Drainage Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

ELTHAM DRAINAGE BOARD.

Special Order making Special Rate.

THAT, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Eltham Drainage Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a further loan of £50 (being an amount not exceeding 10 per cent. on the original loan of £500) required to complete the drain-construction works, known as Loan No. 6, and specified in special order published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 18th day of October, 1906, page 2729, the Eltham Drainage Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable value (on the basis of capital value) of all the rateable property of that portion of the Eltham Drainage District comprising part Section 32, Block XI, Ngaire Survey District (172 acres); eastern half of Section 76, Block VI, Ngaire Survey District (95 acres); part section 33, Block XI, Ngaire Survey District (203 acres); Sections 38 and 37, Block XI aforesaid; Sections 97, 96, and 95, Block X, Ngaire Survey District;
