Declaring Auckland Oyster-fishery, and Subdivisions in
which it is lawful and unlawful to take Oysters.
PLUNKET, Governor.
WHEREAS it is, amongst other things, enacted by the
fifteenth section of “The Sea-fisheries Act, 1894,”
that the Governor may from time to time declare any bay,
estuary, or tidal waters in the Dominion to be an oyster-
fishery, and prescribe the subdivisions thereof wherein it
shall be lawful and unlawful to take oysters :
And whereas by Warrant under the hand of the Governor,
dated the twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine
hundred and seven, and published in a Supplement to the
New Zealand Gazette of the same date, the Auckland
Oyster-fishery was constituted and divided into subdivisions :
And whereas it is desirable to revoke the said Warrant,
and to make another in lieu thereof :
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
hereinbefore-recited power and authority, and of all other
powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, doth
hereby revoke and determine the said Warrant of the twenty-
ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and seven,
and all Warrants amending the same, and doth hereby de-
clare the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between
a point on high-water mark of the sea due east of Trig.
Station No. 29 on the south head of Whangaruru Harbour
and the northernmost point of the south head of Tairua
Harbour, including the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters of
any islands situated between the said points on the south
head of Whangaruru Harbour and the south head of Tairua
Harbour, excepting the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters of
the Island of Kawau, to be an oyster-fishery under the name
of “the Auckland Oyster-fishery”; and I do hereby divide
the same into nine subdivisions, namely :—

The Whangarei Subdivision, which shall include the
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between a point on
high-water mark of the sea due east of Trig. Station No. 29
on the south head of Whangaruru Harbour and the sec-
tion boundary-line of Section 91, Block I, Mangawai Survey
District, on Bream Tail. -
The Auckland North Subdivision, which shall include
the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the
section boundary-line of Section 91, Block I, Mangawai
Survey District, on Bream Tail, and the north-easternmost
point of Mullet Point. -
The Mahurangi Subdivision, which shall include all
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the north-
easternmost point of Mullet Point and the north-eastern-
most point of Gull Point. -
The Rangitoto Subdivision, which shall include all
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the north-
easternmost point of Gull Point and the north-easternmost
point of East Tamaki Head, and inside a line drawn from
the last-mentioned point to a point two miles north-east of
the David Rocks, and inside a line drawn from that point to
the north-easternmost point of Gull Point. -
The South-eastern Subdivision, which shall include all
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the north-
easternmost point of East Tamaki Head and the south-
western point of Hautapu Point, Coromandel Peninsula, ex-
cept the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters of Waiheke and
Pakehi Islands. -
The Waiheke-Pakehi Subdivision, which shall include
all the bays, estuaries, and tidal waters of Waiheke and
Pakehi Islands. -
The Cabbage Bay Subdivision, which shall include all
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the south-
western point of Hautapu Point and the northernmost
point of Cape Colville. -
The Eastern Subdivision, which shall include all bays,
estuaries, and tidal waters situated between the northern-
most point of Cape Colville and the northernmost point of
the south head of Tairua Harbour. -
The Great Barrier Subdivision, which shall include all
bays, estuaries, and tidal waters of Great Barrier Island.
And His Excellency the Governor doth further declare
and prescribe that it shall be unlawful to take oysters in
said subdivisions of the Auckland Oyster-fishery :
Provided that it shall not be unlawful for the Minister to
cause oysters to be taken under the Sea-fisheries Act, 1907,
in subdivisions set apart under that Act for the purpose.
The said oyster-fishery and the several subdivisions shall be
marked out by distinguishing posts or marks (to be approved
by the Collector of Customs at the Port of Auckland in the
manner provided by section twenty-six of the said Act of
1894) as nearly as may be.
This Warrant shall have force and effect from the date
of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

this eleventh day of April, one thousand nine
hundred and eight.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Nelson Land District
for Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” and its
amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor
of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that
the national endowment lands described in the Schedule
hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on
Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand
nine hundred and eight, at the rentals mentioned in the
said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands
shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The
Land Act, 1892,” and “The National Endowment Act,
1907.”

This block is bounded generally towards the north by the
surveyed sections on Granite Creek and by the northern
district line of the Otumahana Survey District; towards the
east and south by unsurveyed Crown lands; and towards the
west by the Karamea–Seddonville Main Road and surveyed
sections in Blocks II and III, Kongahu Survey District.
The whole is covered with heavy mixed bush, chiefly birch,
kamai, rimu, and miro, with occasional patches of white-
pine towards the northern end, and the usual heavy under-
growth.
The land is undulating, with good rich flats along most
of the rivers and creeks, varying in altitude from 80 ft. to
1,300 ft. above sea-level. Formation, sandstone and granite
gravel on papa, the whole being well watered.
Access is gained by the Karamea–Seddonville Main Road
and by unformed branch roads up the various creeks and
rivers, the northern extremity of the block being distant
about four miles and a half from the Karamea Settlement,
and the southern end about twelve miles from Seddonville.
A metalled dray-road from the sea-coast by way of the Little
Wanganui Valley taps the block about midway on the
Karamea–Seddonville Road.
BULLER COUNTY.—ORIKAKA BLOCK.

Situated in the head-waters of the Mackley or Orikaka
River, a tributary of the River Buller, the southern boundary
being distant about eight miles from the Inangahua Junc-
tion Post-office, and the south-eastern corner about five miles
from Lyell Township. Access is given by the County Council
prospecting-track, which runs through about the middle of
the block, and by a graded but unformed road up the Orikaka
River from the main Buller coach-road.
The portion of the block to the westward of the Orikaka
River is composed of six main spurs from the Mount William
Range, varying in altitude from 500 ft. to 2,650 ft. above sea-
level, of slate formation, with outcrop of granite; very pre-
cipitous, with little soil, the vegetation being stunted and
alpine in character, chiefly birches, with rimu, silver-pine,
rata, totara, and miro. The portion lying to the north of the
Orikaka River ranges in altitude from 800 ft. to 2,400 ft., is
very broken, of clay formation, with numerous coal outcrops,
covered with pine scrub; the remainder of the block has an
altitude of from 500 ft. to 1,900 ft., and is of slate formation.
The portion lying to the north of the Coalbrookdale Track is
very rough and broken, with fair soil in places, while the
portion to the south of the track is not so broken, but with
little soil above 1,200 ft. The forest is of the same nature as
that on the western side of the Orikaka, with the addition of
a little matai and kahikatea. The whole is well watered by
the Orikaka River, Pensini’s Creek, and their numerous
tributaries.
