Purposes of Public Buildings.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this first
day of April, 1908.
Present:
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD, K.C.M.G.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto
is Native land and is required to be taken for the
purposes of public buildings :
And whereas the said land is held or occupied by Native
owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown :
And whereas a map of the said land has been prepared
in duplicate, as required by the eighty-ninth section of
“ The Public Works Act, 1905 ” ;
Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the
powers vested in him by “ The Public Works Act, 1905,”
and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this
behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby pro-
claim and declare that the land shown upon such map and
described in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for public
buildings as aforesaid ; and the said land shall vest in His
Majesty the King, as from the twenty-fourth day of May,
one thousand nine hundred and eight.

deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works,
at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, and
thereon coloured red.

Rate of Duty to be levied on Winding-engines for Mining
Purposes when driven by Hydraulic Power.

PLUNKET, Governor.
WHEREAS winding-engines for mining purposes
driven by hydraulic power are articles which, in
the opinion of the Minister of Customs, possess such pro-
perties that they can be used for purposes similar to those
for which winding-engines for mining purposes, steam, air,
or electrically driven, are used : And whereas the last-
mentioned engines (including bed-plates, foundation-bolts,
and friction-clutches, when imported with the engines) are
liable to the following duties of Customs, namely : Five per
cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture of some part
of the British dominions, and fifteen per cent. ad valorem
if not the produce of such dominions :
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the powers and authority conferred upon
me by section seventeen of the Tariff Act, 1907, do hereby
direct that, in lieu of the duties imposed by the said Act,
there shall be levied on winding-engines for mining purposes
driven by hydraulic power (including bed-plates, foundation-
bolts, and friction-clutches, when imported with the engines)
the same duties of Customs as those hereinbefore specified,
namely :—
Five per cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture
of some part of the British dominions, and fifteen per
cent. ad valorem if not the produce of such dominions.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this thirteenth day of April, one thousand nine
hundred and eight.
