Rural Lands in Nelson Land District open for Selection on Renewable Lease.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments.

Low-lying level land, rather wet; fair soil; poorly timbered with pine. Accessible by Waimangaroa River and road reserve, and distant about a mile and a half from Waimangaroa Railway-station.

Situated on the Mokihinui–Karamea Road, about five miles from Seddonville. Soil fair to good, on granite, sandstone, papa, and limestone formation.

Situated on the sea-coast, about three miles north of Mokihinui Township. Access by sea-beach.
The quality of the land—which is more or less broken—varies from fair to good, on granite, sandstone, papa, and limestone formation. The highest altitude attained on the block is 1,777 ft. above sea-level.
Waimea County.—Kaiteriteri Survey District.

Broken and rocky land. Situated in the Buller Valley. Covered with heavy forest of birch. Distant about five miles from the Owen Post-office.
Inangahua County.—Rahu Survey District.

All covered with green bush. About half the area consists of gravelly terraces and river-flats, the remainder undulating and broken on western side. The land is very suitable for grass-growing. The forest consists of brown-birch and red-birch, with pukapuka, karaka, and other underscrubs. The soil, although stony in parts, is good alluvial wash on flats; on terraces and undulating country, gravelly loam, with granite boulders; rather mossy in places, but on the whole of fair quality. Fronting Woolley River. Has road surveyed along the frontage. Accessible at present by river-bed and horse-track. Distant about nine miles from Warwick Junction Post-office. Altitude, from 1,100 ft. to 1,750 ft. above sea-level.

About 22 acres of this section consists of inferior swampy land, covered with moss; about 150 acres on high gravel terraces. The remainder of the section is broken hilly country, suitable for stock only. Clay soil, on granite formation, varying from medium to inferior. Altitude, from 200 ft. to 500 ft. above the river. The bush on the section consists chiefly of brown-birch and red-birch, with pukapuka and some white-pine. Distant about nine miles from Warwick Junction.

About 4 acres open level tussock-flat, with fair soil, suitable for cropping. There is about 200 acres on gravel terraces; the remainder is broken hilly country. Bush consists chiefly of brown-birch and red-birch, with a clump of about fifty white-pine trees. Clay soil of medium quality. Altitude, from 100 ft. to 200 ft. above the river. Distant fourteen miles from Warwick Junction.

About 80 acres consists of level land of fair soil, of which 33 acres is open tussock country, suitable for light cropping; the remainder is on broken hilly country, suitable for stock only. The bush is red-birch and brown-birch and pukapuka. Medium to inferior clay soil. Altitude, from 15 ft. to 600 ft. above the river. Distant fifteen miles from Warwick Junction.

Level pakihi land, slightly swampy, with patches of stunted manuka. Fronts Caledonian Terrace Road to the south, and the Westport–Mokihinui Railway to the north, and is distant about three miles from Westport by a good metalled road.
