Opening Settlement Lands in Southland Land District for Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” and their amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eight, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892,” and “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900.”

Southland County.—Edendale Settlement.—Brydone Village.

Level land in good English grass. Good post-and-wire fence on south boundaries of Sections 140E and 143E, and gorse fence on east boundaries of Sections 146E and 147E. Situated directly opposite Brydone Railway-station, and alongside the school and dairy factory.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Southland County.—Lindhurst Hundred.—Edendale Settlement.

Open agricultural and pastoral land, at an elevation varying from 250 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Comprises 28 acres of ploughed ground in old grass, included in which is the only flat (about 5 acres) suitable for a homestead-site; the remainder of the section (356 acres) is made up of tussock, fern, and tutu ridges, a portion of which can be ploughed. Well watered by several creeks. Situated on Craig’s Road and The Downs Road, distant four miles from Mataura. The improvements which go with the land are 226 chains of boundary-fencing, valued at £30 7s.

Wallace County.—Wairaki Survey District.—Beaumont Settlement.

All ploughable; about 190 acres river-flat; soil good, but shingly in places; 40 chains river frontage. About 30 acres swamp, partly drained; balance low ridges of a strong clay soil. Permanent water. Situated eight miles and a half from Nightcaps. Altitude, from 590 ft. to 630 ft. above sea-level. The improvements which go with the land are: 60 chains ditching, £12; 15 chains fencing on west boundary of main road, £3; and 31 chains fencing on east boundary of main road, £2 4s. 6d.: total, £17 4s. 6d.

All low-lying ridges; strong clay soil; all ploughable; good water. Situated nine miles from Nightcaps. Altitude, 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. The improvements which go with the land are: 47 chains fencing on south boundary, £16 9s.; 13½ chains fencing, also on south boundary, £4 1s.; and half-value 51 chains on west side of road on the west boundary, £10 4s.: total, £30 14s.

All low ridges, with strips of swamp land easily drained; all ploughable; strong clay soil; good water. Situated ten miles and a half from Nightcaps. Altitude, 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. The improvements which go with the land are half-value 46 chains fencing on north boundary, £7 6s.

Southland County.—Wyndham Survey District.—Glenham Settlement.

Weighted with £7 7s. 6d., valuation for fencing.

Open agricultural land, undulating, and well watered by several good streams. The soil is good on the tops of the ridges, but not so good on the slopes towards the Mataura River. 150 acres has been ploughed, and sown in English grass, which requires renewing; the balance is tussock. The height above sea-level is 100 ft. to 300 ft. Situated one mile and a half from Glenham Railway-station, school, and dairy factory. The improvements which go with the land are: Half-value 45 chains post-and-wire fence on west boundary, £5 12s. 6d.; and half-value 62 chains gorse-and-wire fence on south boundary, £1 11s.: total, £7 3s. 6d.

Opening Lands in Otago Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under Secretary in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892,” and its amendments.
