Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of Roads through Blocks I, V, IX, Ngatapa, III, IV, XII, and XVI, Koranga, and XV, Moanui Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were, on the 10th day of September, 1907, duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 6th day of August, 1907.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Hydrographic Office, Washington, D.C., United States of America, are published for general information.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN LUIS OBISPO BAY.—PORT HARFORD.—BUOYS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 25th September, 1907, Santa Rita buoy, a horizontally striped first-class can, will be established about ⅓ mile south-eastward of Westdahl Rock buoy No. 1, at the entrance to Port Harford, San Luis Obispo Bay, California.

About the same date Atlas Rock buoy, a horizontally striped first-class spar, will be established to mark the 16 ft. rock about ⅓ mile eastward of the small islet (52 ft.) on the western side of San Luis Obispo Bay, between the breakwater and the wharf.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—RED ROCK BANK.—BUOY TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 10th September, 1907, Red Rock Bank buoy No. R R B 2, a first class nun, will be established near the western edge of the bank southward of Red Rock, San Francisco Bay.

OREGON.

COLUMBIA RIVER ENTRANCE.—CAN BUOY TO BE REPLACED BY BELL BUOY.—About 1st October, 1907, South Channel buoy, a perpendicularly striped first-class can buoy, marked S C in black, moored at the entrance to the Columbia River, Oregon, will be replaced by a bell buoy without other change.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.

TOLMIE CHANNEL.—SARAH ISLAND.—BOAT BLUFF.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has given notice that an unwatched intermittent white light, automatically eclipsed at short intervals, has been established on the western side of Boat Bluff, Sarah Island, Tolmie Channel, British Columbia.

The light is exhibited from a beacon consisting of a white, cylindrical, steel tank standing on a white steel truss and surmounted by a red pyramidal steel frame supporting a lantern. The light is elevated 26 ft. above high water, and should be visible 5 miles from all points of approach by water.

Approx. position: Lat. 52° 38′ 42″ N., long. 128° 32′ 00″ W.

GRENVILLE CHANNEL.—MORNING REEF.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has given notice that an unwatched intermittent white light, elevated 25 ft. above high water, and visible 10 miles from all points of approach, has been established on the north-western rock of Morning Reef, Grenville Channel, British Columbia.

The light, which is automatically eclipsed at short intervals, is exhibited from a beacon consisting of a white, cylindrical, steel tank standing on a white steel truss and surrounded by a red pyramidal steel frame supporting a lantern. The beacon stands on a stone foundation 2 ft. above high water.

Approx. position: Lat. 53° 39′ 27″ N., long. 129° 44′ 25″ W.

CHATHAM SOUND.—PRINCE RUPERT HARBOUR APPROACH.—HYDROGRAPHIC INFORMATION.—The Canadian Government has published the following hydrographic information concerning shoals in the southern approach to Prince Rupert Harbour, Chatham Sound:—

Holland Island is steep-to on the eastern side, there being depths of over 10 fathoms at a distance of 50 yards from the shore. On the northern side shoal water extends off 250 yards, and to the westward the ground is foul.

From the northern side of Kitson Island a sandy shoal, with rocks that dry at low water, extends 1 mile in a N. 45° W. true (W.N.W. ½ W. w’ly mag.) direction, the extremity of the shoal lying 1¼ miles N. 37° 30′ E. true (N. ¾ E. mag.) from Holland Island. This shoal ground extends to the eastward of Kitson Island and dries at low water across to Lear Point.

A sandy shoal about ⅝ mile long, extending in a north-west and south-east magnetic direction, exists between Holland Island and Kitson Island. This shoal has two heads with 4 fathoms over them, and forms two channels, the western one having a depth of 21 fathoms and the eastern one a depth of 18 fathoms. The north-western end of the shoal lies ½ mile N. 73° E. true (N.E. n’ly mag.) from Holland
