Notifying Lands in Nelson Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the thirteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seven, as the time at which the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such lands respectively.

The above allotments are situated in a good residential position in the Town of Westport, and are in close proximity to the wharves, railway-station, and business centre of the town. The improvements consist of fencing and planting.

Rural Lands in Nelson Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say,—

  1. The rural lands enumerated in the Schedules hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of selection on and after the twentieth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seven, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedules.

  2. The said lands may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, as provided by section one hundred and twenty-one of “The Land Act, 1892,” as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone, and shall not be purchased for cash.

  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the First Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land,” and the lands in the Second Schedule shall be deemed to be “light-bush land.”

  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for the period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, and three years in the case of light-bush land, from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, and three years in the case of light-bush land, shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Rough broken country, limestone formation, heavily timbered with pine, rimu, and birch; lying at the back of Pattie’s Clearing on the Takaka Ranges, about seventeen miles from the Riwaka Post-office. Access by the Takaka-Riwaka Main Road, and by an unformed road (70 chains) through Pattie’s Clearing.

Buller County.—Otumahana Survey District.

About one-half of section lying between access-road and river is good flat land, covered with heavy mixed bush; the remainder at back of road is good soil, with sandstone rock close to surface, and timbered with heavy birch bush. Access from Little Wanganui Settlement by dray-road and formed track, and distant therefrom about four miles and three-quarters.

About one-half of section back from road frontage is flat good land, covered with heavy mixed timber; the remainder at back is inferior and hilly, with chiefly birch forest. Access by dray-road and gravelled track from Little Wanganui Settlement, and distant therefrom about three miles and three-quarters.

SECOND-CLASS LIGHT-BUSH LAND.

Inangahua County.—Reefton Survey District.

Altitude, about 630 ft. above sea-level. Hilly country, watered by small streams; inferior soil, on blue bottom; light bush of white-, brown-, and silver-birch, with some rimu of no commercial value. Access generally by main road and railway, about one mile and a half from Reefton Railway-station and three miles from Reefton Post-office.

Altitude, about 620 ft. above sea-level. A few acres flat, the remainder low hills watered by small streams; inferior soil, on blue bottom; light bush of white-, brown-, and silver-birch of no commercial value. Access generally by railway and main road, about one mile and a quarter from Reefton Railway-station and two miles and three-quarters from Reefton Post-office.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-second day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seven.
