Rural Lands in Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

  1. The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twentieth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and seven, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedule.

  2. The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity: provided that in the case of lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, they shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.

  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”

  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of four years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit

Altitude, from about high-water mark to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country; about one-third fern and tea-tree, balance covered with mixed forest, comprising puriri, taraire, rimu, and kahikatea, with dense undergrowth of nikau and ferns; soil of fair quality, on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by small streams. Situated about nine miles from Rawene, seven miles being by main Rawene-Hokianga Road, balance by rough track.

Undulating and level land. About 20 acres fern flats, balance mixed forest, containing some good puriri and a few kauri-trees; soil volcanic, and of good quality; well watered by small streams. Situated in the Waimamaku Settlement, about two miles from Waimamaku Post-office by cart-road.

Broken land. About 60 acres fern on Section 31, balance covered with mixed forest, comprising totara, rimu, rata, tawa, taraire, and miro, with undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; soil a good forest loam, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about four miles from Broadwood Post-office—one mile and a half by main road, balance fair pack-track.

Altitude, from 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Generally broken land, covered with mixed forest, comprising rimu, kahikatea, totara, and rata, with moderate undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of good medium quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Situated about thirty-five miles from Whangarei—twenty miles by dray-road, balance by bridle-track. Distance from Kaikohe about twenty-eight miles, and from Parakao Post-office about eight miles.

Altitude, from 400 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Broken to undulating land. About 280 acres covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, tawhero, towai, rewarewa, rimu, and rata, with dense undergrowth of kiekie, rangiora, supplejack, mako, raurekau, punga, and mahoe; balance fern and tea-tree; well watered by small streams; soil a fair loamy clay, on limestone formation. Distant about nine miles from Pirongia by good formed road. Section is about three miles from Whatawhata-Pirongia Road, and three miles from the dairy-factory.
