Rural Lands in Westland Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of selection on and after the seventeenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and seven, at the rentals specified in the said Schedule.

The said lands may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, as provided by section one hundred and twenty-one of “The Land Act 1892,” as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone, and shall not be purchased for cash.

For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “light-bush land.”

No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for the period of three years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of three years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Forest land and swamp, of which 215 acres is river-flat, the remainder open swamp and manuka; the swamp is drainable. The bush comprises rimu, kahikatea, tawhero, and miro. The hills range from 150 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Accessible by the Wataroa River bed and by bridle-road via Saltwater Lagoon. Well watered. There is a boat-landing and a good homestead-site at the north-west corner of the section.

Forest land, of which about 130 acres is good river-flat, the balance hills ranging from 200 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level, with small flats along the coast. Timber consists of rimu, kahikatea, tawhero, and miro. Well watered. Accessible by Wataroa River bed and by bridle-road via Saltwater Lagoon.

Well watered. Accessible by Wataroa River bed and by bridle-road via Saltwater Lagoon.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the seventeenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and seven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Principally flat land covered with mixed bush, consisting of heavy white-pine and kamahi. There is about 10 acres of swamp, easily drained. Though the soil is of a sandy nature it is wet and peaty, but might easily be drained into the Okuru River, and would then form fair pastoral land. Well watered. Access by road and river from Okuru, distant three miles. Altitude, 80 ft. above sea-level.

Principally flat land covered with mixed bush, consisting of red- and white-pine and kamahi. There is about 15 acres of open swamp, easily drained. About 40 acres is good soil, the remainder inferior and peaty, though easily drained. When drained it would be fair pastoral land. Well watered. Access by road and river from Okuru, distant three miles and a half. Altitude, 80 ft. above sea-level.
