Land temporarily reserved in the Canterbury Land District.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS by the two-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Canterbury Land District described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the said Schedule specified at the end of the description of the land so intended to be temporarily reserved.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 3,850 acres, more or less, being Reserve No. 3739, situated in Blocks I, II, and III, Oxford Survey District. Bounded towards the north by the top of the Rocky Range; towards the east by the top of the said Rocky Range and a road-line; on the south generally by Pastoral Run No. 224, Rural Sections Nos. 35398, 35221, 35399, 35005, and 34773, to the west branch of Cooper's Creek; thence by the said creek, Rural Section No. 22398, and the road to Cooper's Creek to its junction with Dobson's Road; thence by that road and the south-western boundary of Section No. 3, Block I, Oxford Survey District; and towards the west generally by Reserve No. 3547: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 37915/73, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For forest and climatic purposes.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and seven.

Rural Lands in Southland Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the tenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and seven ; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Flat land, of which 140 acres is covered by mixed bush, the remainder being open swamp, easily drained into the Okuru River. The bush consists principally of red and white-pine, kamahi, and some stunted silver-pine. Soil is of an inferior sandy nature, but when drained would be fair pastoral land; well watered. Access by road and river from Okuru, distant two miles. Altitude, 80 ft. above sea-level.
