SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
NEW HEBRIDES.—EFATE (SANDWICH) ISLAND.—MELI BAY.—FILA (VILA) HARBOUR RANGE-LIGHTS.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 47 (2140) of 1906, the French Government has given further notice that information, dated 29th October, 1906, has been received from the despatch-boat “Vaucluse” giving the following description of the range-lights leading into Fila (Vila) Harbour, Meli Bay, Efate (Sandwich) Island:—
The front light is a fixed red light elevated 131 ft. above high water and visible 6 miles. It is located 580 yards S. 72° W. true (S.W. by W. ½ W. w’ly mag.) from the conspicuous tree.
The rear light is a fixed white light elevated 295 ft. above high water and visible 9 miles. It is located 482 yards N. 78° E. true (E.N.E. e’ly mag.) from the front light.
Approx. position of front light: Lat. 17° 44′ 58″ S., long. 168° 18′ 55″ E.

CHINA.
YANGTZE RIVER ENTRANCE.—LIGHT TO BE DISCONTINUED.—LIGHT-VESSEL MOVED.—INTENDED CHANGE IN BUOYAGE.—The Chinese Government has given notice that about 1st February, 1907, Liu Chiao light, located on the northern side of the Shaweiskan Channel, Yangtze River, will be discontinued.
Also, on the same date, Drinkwater Point light-vessel will be moved 5 miles N. 87° 30′ W. true (W. ⅜ N. n’ly mag.) from its present position, Chi Yao Bank light-buoy will be discontinued, and Drinkwater Point light-buoy will be re-established in its former position 12·2 miles S. 85° W. true (W. ¼ S. mag.) from Shaweishan light.
Middle Island light-buoy, painted black, will be established to mark the southern side of the channel, 1½ miles S. 42° 30′ W. true (S.W. mag.) from Liu Chiao Lighthouse, and Middle Island buoy, painted red and black, will be withdrawn.
YANGTZE RIVER.—NORTH CHANNEL.—DRINKWATER POINT.—BEACON ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 34 (1491) of 1906, further information has been received from the coast inspector at Shanghai, through Lieutenant-Commander W. H. Darvall, H.B.M.S. “Janus,” that a wooden trestle beacon, 60 ft. in height, surmounted by a black staff and ball, has been erected on Drinkwater Point, North Channel, Yangtze River, in the position formerly occupied by the lighthouse.
Approx. position: Lat. 31° 27′ 50″ N., long. 121° 48′ 45″ E.

Also quarantine anchorage upper buoy will be replaced by a light-buoy, painted red, moored in 30 ft. at low water springs 1·1 miles S. 38° 30′ W. true (S.W. ⅜ S. mag.) from the quarantine beacon, and the buoy now marking the lower limits of the quarantine anchorage will be replaced by a red conical buoy, moored in 30 ft. at low water springs 1·74 miles S. 18° 30′ E. true (S. by E. ⅜ E. e’ly mag.) from the quarantine beacon. These buoys, in addition to marking the limits of the quarantine anchorage, will also mark the northern side of the channel.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
SOLOMON ISLANDS.—GOWER (INATTENDUE) ISLAND.—CORRECTED POSITION.—The German Government has given notice that the commander of the German man-of-war “Condor” reports that the Island of Gower (Inattendue), Solomon Islands, is located 2′ 36″ farther southward and 6′ 12″ farther eastward than the position indicated on the charts.
Former position (approx.): Lat. 7° 53′ S., long. 160° 30′ E.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
KAUAI ISLAND.—NAWILIWILI HARBOUR LIGHT-STATION.—STRUCTURE REPLACED BY MAST.—On 22nd December, 1906, the wooden trestle tower, 45 ft. high, at Nawiliwili Harbour Light-station, located on Ninini Point, northern side of the entrance to Nawiliwili Harbour, southern part of the eastern shore of the Island of Kauai, Hawaiian Islands, was removed, and the lens lantern was established 55 ft. above the water and 33½ ft. above the ground, on a white mast having at its base a small white house with red roof and lead-coloured trimmings. The location and characteristic of the light remain unchanged.
Approx. position: Lat. 21° 57′ 35″ N., long. 159° 20′ 20″ W.

Notice to Mariners No. 20 of 1907.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for general information.

MARINE BOARD OF HOBART.—BUTTS ROCK LIGHT.
WITH reference to the preliminary notice, dated 21st ultimo, it is hereby notified that the Butts Rock light, in D’Entrecasteaux Channel, at the entrance to the Huon River, will, weather permitting, be exhibited from a skeleton iron tower on and after the night of the 6th instant.
Following are particulars: Dioptric fixed white light of sixth order; visible all round; focal plane, 26 ft. above sea-level. From vessels passing through D’Entrecasteaux Channel the light will be obscured by Huon Island between south 42 degrees east and south 72 degrees east, bearings magnetic.
Excepting where the land intervenes, the light will be visible in the mean state of the atmosphere eight miles.
The light will be unwatched, and should it by accident go out there may be some delay in relighting it.

Notice as to Statutory Closing-day under “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904.”
WHEREAS the local authority of the Raglan Town District has failed to decide what working-day in the week shall be the statutory closing-day for shops in the Raglan Town District:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 13 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint Wednesday as the statutory closing-day for shops in the Raglan Town District.
