THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the City of Wellington, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

Result of Poll.
I HEREBY give notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the poll on the 24th instant for and against the proposal of the Council of the City of Wellington to borrow (by way of special loan within the meaning of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments) the sum of £160,000 to be expended on the undermentioned undertaking—
Purchase of the business concessions, including all installation, machinery, plant, leasehold property, and goodwill of the City of Wellington Electric Light and Power Company (Limited) for the sum of .. 150,000
Stock, new machinery, and other additional plant .. .. .. .. 10,000
£160,000
was as follows: For the proposal, 413; against the proposal, 238.
I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road through Opanake No. 2m2, Block No. 3046, Blocks II and III, Kaihu Survey District, Hobson County.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 14th July, 1906, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated the 13th July, 1905.

Additional Regulations for the Examination of Masters and Mates.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 23rd January, 1907.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in me by section 23 of “The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1903,” I do hereby make the following additional regulation for the conduct of examinations for masters and mates, and as to the qualifications of candidates, and I do order that this regulation shall be substituted for subclause (a) of clause 75 of the regulations of the 30th May, 1906, for the issue of certificates as extra master, which subclause is hereby revoked.

REGULATION.
- (a.) A PAPER on navigation will be given, the candidate being required to give written answers to six or ten questions on this subject, and also to satisfy the Examiner on the supplementary viva voce list.
For the purposes of this examination the Marine Department has adopted “The Modern Practice of Shipbuilding in ‘Iron and Steel’” as a text-book, from which the questions will be set, and the Department advises candidates to take this or other books on the subject to sea with them so that they may study them at their leisure.
Notice fixing Closing-hours of Grocers and Storekeepers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers and storekeepers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 1 p.m. on Thursdays (the weekly half-holiday), and at 9 p.m. on Saturdays of each week: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers and storekeepers’ shops in the borough:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 4th day of February, 1907, all the grocers and storekeepers’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed accordingly, at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 1 p.m. on Thursdays (the weekly half-holiday), and at 9 p.m. on Saturdays.
