Special Order made by the Havelock Town Board.

THE following special order, made by the Havelock Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

HAVLOCK TOWN BOARD.
Special Order making Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Town Districts Act, 1881,” and the amendments thereof, the Havelock Town Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £700, authorised to be raised by the Havelock Town Board, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of erecting a Town Hall, library, and Town Board Office, the said Havelock Town Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of ¾d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Havelock Town District, comprising all that area in the Provincial District of Marlborough bounded towards the north and east by the waters of Pelorus Sound, from the north-west corner of Section 97, Town of Havelock, to a point in transit with the southern boundary of Section No. 219, in the said town; thence towards the south by a right line to the south-western corner of said section; thence towards the west and north-west by the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 219, 218, and 217, in the said town; thence towards the west by a right line to the north-western corner of Section No. 205, in the said town; thence by a right line to a public street fronting Sections Nos. 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, and 96, in the said town; thence towards the south-west by the southern side of that street to Section No. 98, Havelock Suburban; thence towards the north-west and-west by Sections Nos. 98 and 99, Havelock Suburban; thence towards the south-west by the dividing-line between Section No. 99, Havelock Suburban, and Section No. 100, Town of Havelock, and by that line continued across Neil Street to Section No. 118, Havelock Suburban; thence towards the north by a right line to the south-west corner of Section No. 133, Town of Havelock; thence towards the south-west and south by Sections Nos. 118 and 119, Havelock Suburban, to the south-west corner of Section No. 117, Town of Havelock; thence towards the north by a right line to the south-west corner of Section No. 128, in the said town; and thence towards the west by a right line to the north-west corner of Section No. 97, in the said Town of Havelock: and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

THE following special order, made by the Mount Wellington Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

MOUNT WELLINGTON ROAD DISTRICT.
Special Order making Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Mount Wellington Road Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £5,000, authorised to be raised by the Mount Wellington Road Board, under the above-mentioned Act, for the purpose of providing and constructing the necessary plant and materials for a water-supply to the Ellerslie Subdivision in the said district, the Mount Wellington Road Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the said Ellerslie Subdivision, the boundaries of which are as follows—commencing at the Harp of Erin Inn; thence towards the north-west by the Remuera Road District and Section No. 12A, Parish of Waitemata, Otahuhu Survey District; thence towards the north-east by Section No. 26A of the said parish; thence towards the south east by the College Road, the crossing of the Panmure and Howick Road, and Sections No. 28 and No. 33 of the said parish; thence towards the south by the southern boundary of Section No. 17 of the said parish to the Great South Road; thence towards the south-west by the Great South Road to the point of commencement: and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 30th day of September and the 31st day of March in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-five years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
The above special order was duly passed at a special meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board held on the 13th day of August, 1906, and confirmed and sealed at a special meeting of the said Board held on the 10th day of September, 1906.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of certain Shops in the Borough of Hawera under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the following trades in the Borough of Hawera, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays (the weekly half-holiday), and at 9 p.m. on Saturdays: And whereas the Hawera Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades mentioned in the borough:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of October, 1906, all the shops mentioned in the Borough of Hawera shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Wellington, 30th July, 1906.
A GOLD medal and fifty guineas, a silver medal and twenty-five guineas, and a bronze medal and ten guineas will be awarded by the Mines Department for essays on the present condition and future prospects of the mineral resources of New Zealand, and the best means of fostering their development.
In judging the merits of the essays preference will be given to those which are of a practical character.
The essays must be sent in to the Under-Secretary for Mines, Wellington, signed with a motto, and accompanied by a sealed envelope containing the author’s name and address, on or before 1st December, 1906.
The essays will be submitted to a Board of three persons (to be hereafter appointed), on whose decision the above prizes will be awarded.
Note.—“Mineral” means any metal or mineral, and includes petroleum and other mineral oils.
