done, or what proportion (if any) of the cost of the same
should be borne by any local authority, and what local
authority should do the work, direct any person to be a
Commissioner to inquire and report to him upon any
matter which he shall deem necessary to enable him to
determine any such question as aforesaid:
And whereas a Commissioner was appointed and an
inquiry duly held: And whereas such Commissioner did
report to the Governor, after due inquiry, his opinion
thereon:
And whereas the Governor is of opinion that the said road
should be constructed:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and
in exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the
above-in-part-recited Act, do hereby authorise the Council
of the Borough of Grey Lynn to construct the said road.
And I do hereby declare that the cost of constructing the
said road, less such amount by way of contribution as may
be provided by Government, shall be borne by the Grey
Lynn Borough Council, the Auckland City Council, the
Arch Hill Road Board, the Point Chevalier Road Board,
and the Avondale Road Board in the following proportions,
namely:—
The Grey Lynn Borough Council to contribute eleven
thirty-eighths of the cost; the Auckland City Council to
contribute eleven thirty-eighths of the cost; the Arch Hill
Road Board to contribute seven thirty-eighths of the cost;
the Point Chevalier Road Board to contribute five thirty-
eighths of the cost; and the Avondale Road Board to con-
tribute four thirty-eighths of the cost after the Government
contribution has been deducted therefrom as aforesaid.
And I do hereby direct that any contribution hereby re-
quired to be made as aforesaid by the Council of the City
of Auckland, the Arch Hill Road Board, the Point Chevalier
Road Board, and the Avondale Road Board shall be paid
from time to time in the proportions hereinbefore pre-
scribed out of the funds of the said Council and the said
Road Boards respectively, within a period of thirty days
after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Coun-
cil of the Borough of Grey Lynn, and all such payments
shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of the said
Council for and on account of such Council.

SCHEDULE.

All that road in the Auckland Land District known as the
deviation of the Great North Road, commencing at its junc-
tion with Surrey Crescent, and passing through Lots 16 and
15 of Section 9, Borough of Grey Lynn, to where such devia-
tion joins the Great North Road near the south-west corner
of Lot 15 of Section 9, Borough of Grey Lynn; as the said
road is more particularly delineated on the plan marked
R. 5404, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of
Roads, at Wellington, and thereon coloured green.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this third day of September, one thousand nine
hundred and six.

Volunteer Regulations amended.

PLUNKET, Governor.

I N pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred on me by “The Defence Act, 1886,” and
“The Defence Act Amendment Act, 1900,” I, William
Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby amend in the manner and to the extent
set forth in the Schedule hereto such of the General Regu-
lations of the Defence Force of New Zealand, made on the
eighth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and
six, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the
same date, as are set forth in the said Schedule. And
I do hereby declare that such amended regulations shall
come into force on the seventh day of September, one thou-
sand nine hundred and six.

PAID DAYLIGHT PARADES OF VOLUNTEERS.

REGULATION 371.—Page 71, line 4, delete the words “(or on
Sunday).”

Appointment of Trustees, Westport Volunteer Drill-shed Reserve.

PLUNKET, Governor.

I N pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred by “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands
Act, 1888,” and “The Volunteer Drill-sheds and Lands
Trustees Validation Act, 1890” (hereinafter termed “the
said Acts”), His Excellency the Right Honourable William
Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, doth hereby constitute and appoint:—

Lieutenant-Colonel GEORGE CECIL BURLEIGH WOLFE,
New Zealand Militia, Officer Commanding Nelson
Military District;
Captain THOMAS CARR, I Battery (Westport), New
Zealand Field Artillery Volunteers;
Captain CHARLES HENRY JEFFREYS BROWN, Denniston
Rifle Volunteers; and
Lieutenant ANTHONY CRISPE COTTRELL, I Battery
(Westport), New Zealand Artillery Volunteers,

to be Trustees of all that piece or parcel of land, containing
by admeasurement twenty-two perches, more or less, situate
in the Land District of Nelson, Town of Westport. Com-
mencing at a point on the south side of Henley Street, distant
one hundred and sixty-five feet in a westerly direction from
its intersection with Russell Street, having a frontage to
Henley Street of sixty feet by a depth of one hundred feet:
together with all buildings erected thereon: to hold the said
several premises for the purpose of maintaining a drill-shed
for Volunteer purposes, and generally for the purposes of
and with the powers conferred by the said Acts. And it
is hereby declared that the said Trustees shall be incor-
porated under the name of “The Trustees of the Westport
Volunteer Drill-shed Reserve,” and that they shall take
office as such Trustees on the eighth day of September,
one thousand nine hundred and six.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this eighth day of September, one thousand nine
hundred and six.

Inventions and Designs exhibited at New Zealand International Exhibition protected.

PLUNKET, Governor.

I N pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred on me by “The Patents, Designs, and Trade-
marks Act, 1889,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify
and declare that the international exhibition known as
the New Zealand International Exhibition, to be held at
Christchurch, in the said colony, commencing on the first
day of November, one thousand nine hundred and six, is an
industrial exhibition for the purposes of the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this eleventh day of September, one thousand
nine hundred and six.

Declaring Road-lines through Land in the Matamata Settlement to be closed.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS a report has been received from the Surveyor-General from which it appears that the roads described
in the Schedule hereto are unformed and unused, and that they intersect land acquired under “The Land for
Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” and are not suitable for the subdivision of such land:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and
in exercise of section sixty-nine of the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this
behalf, do by this notice hereby close the roads hereinafter described, and I do hereby declare that they shall thereupon
become subject to the said Act.
