Rural Lands in Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the thirtieth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Situated in the Waitotara Valley, on the left bank of the Waitotara River. Access from Waitotara Township, about twenty-three miles distant, via the Waitotara Valley and Mangawhio Roads, which are formed for dray traffic to and past the section. Contains 30 to 40 acres flat or easy ground near the road; remainder rough, broken land, consisting of steep spurs and ridges, with some fair faces. Soil of good quality, resting on sandstone-and-papa formation. Fairly heavy forest of matai, rimu (in small quantities), hinau, pukatea, tawa, rata, with birch on the ridges, and the usual undergrowth. Watered by small streams. Elevation, from 300ft. to 1,000ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise 230 acres felled and grassed, 165 chains fencing, logging-up, garden, house, cow-bail and yards, two sheds, roading, &c.

Situated in the Waitotara Valley, on the left bank of the Waitotara River. Access from Waitotara Township, about twenty-three miles distant, via the Waitotara Valley and Mangawhio Roads, which are formed for dray traffic to and past the section. Comprises about 8 or 10 acres of easy ground near the road; remainder is rough, broken land, consisting of steep ridges and spurs. A great portion of the section lies well to the sun. Soil is of fair to good quality, resting on sandstone-and-papa formation. Fairly heavy forest, comprising matai, rimu (in small quantities), hinau, pukatea, tawa, rata, and birch on ridges, with undergrowth of the usual kind. Watered by small streams. Elevation, from about 300ft. to 1,000ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise about 110 acres felled and grassed (apt to go back into fern if not properly stocked) and 90 chains of fencing.

Situated on Beef Creek Road, in Dalefield district. Access from Matarawa Railway-station, about three miles distant—one mile metalled road, remainder unformed. Comprises hilly forest country. Inferior soil, resting on sandstone formation. Light forest, comprising mostly birch, with some rimu, rata, and maire, &c., and an undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, mahoe, &c. Watered by a creek. Elevation, from about 500ft. to 1,700ft. above sea-level. “Thirds” on the section will accrue for a period of fourteen years and a half.
