  1. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of four years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

  2. After the first half-year's rent has been paid by the selector, the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land, the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Situated on the Mangapapa Road; access from Whangamomona, nineteen miles and a quarter distant—about fourteen miles formed dray-road, remainder bridle-road. The land comprises hilly pastoral country, covered with heavy forest of rimu, rata, kahikatea, and a thick undergrowth of supplejack, &c. Soil fair, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation; well watered. Elevation, from 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Maikai Road; access from Whangamomona, nineteen miles and a half distant—about fourteen miles formed dray-road, remainder bridle-road. Rough, broken land, covered with heavy forest of tawa, tawhero, rimu, rata, and a thick undergrowth of karamu, kiekie, supplejack, and white woods. The soil is good, on a papa formation; well watered. Elevation, from 700 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Whaka Road; access from Strathmore, eighteen miles and three-quarters to twenty miles distant—fifteen miles formed dray-road, four miles bridle-road, remainder unformed road. The land comprises low hills, with deep gullies, covered with fairly heavy forest of tawa, tawhero, rimu, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of supplejack. The soil is fair, on a papa formation; well watered. Elevation, 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

Situated at the junction of the Kaka, Ngatoto, and Ooke Roads; access from Urenui, about fourteen miles distant—by a dray-road for eight miles, a 5 ft. bridle-track for four miles, and the remainder a surveyed road only; access also from Uruti by the Uruti Road; a dray-road to within about three miles of the section. The land comprises fair to good pastoral country, covered with a heavy bush of rata, rimu, white-pine, &c., with usual undergrowth. The soil is good, resting on a papa formation; well watered.

Situated on Matau North and Waitara Valley Roads; access from Purangi, about twelve miles distant, two miles being metalled road, nine miles formed dray-road, and one mile bridle-road. Rough, broken country, covered with moderately heavy bush of tawa, tawhero, rimu, rata, and a thick undergrowth of karamu, mahoe, karewa, kiekie, &c. Soil fair, on papa formation; well watered. Elevation, from 500 ft. to 1,350 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Matau North Road; access from Purangi, about five miles and a quarter distant—two miles metalled road, remainder formed dray-road. The land comprises broken pastoral country, covered with fairly heavy forest of tawa, tawhero, some rimu, and a moderate undergrowth of mahoe, karewa, kiekie, &c. Soil fair, on papa formation; well watered. Elevation varies from 500 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Rerekapa Road; access from Tongaporutu, fourteen miles distant, by a bridle-road to within half a mile of section; access also from Whangamomona, twenty-two miles distant—fifteen miles dray-road, seven miles bridle-track. Fair land, with rough pastoral ridges, covered with heavy forest of rimu, rata, kahikatea, and a thick undergrowth of supplejack, &c. Soil good, on papa formation; well watered. Elevation, from 800 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level.

Rural Lands in Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-third day of October, one thousand nine hundred and six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”
