be “light-bush land,” and the lands in the Third Schedule
shall be deemed to be “scrub land.”
4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local
authority from the said lands for the period of four years
in the case of heavy-bush land, three years in the case of
light-bush land, and two years in the case of scrub land,
from the date from which in each case respectively such
lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power
to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such
period.
5. After the first half-year's rent has been paid by the
selector the further instalments of rent payable by him
for a period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land,
three years in the case of light-bush land, and two years
in the case of scrub land, shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his
occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land
the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and there- upon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent
payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector,
as the Board shall think fit.

Situated on Waitewhena Road. Access from Mangaroa
(sixteen miles distant), four miles horse-road, remainder
pack track; access also from Wairere Falls (about fourteen
miles); ten miles rough horse-track, remainder pack-track.
The sections comprise fair ridges and slopes, covered with
heavy bush of rata, rimu, tawa, kahikatea, and soft woods,
with scattered totara and thick undergrowth of supplejack,
karamu, &c.; the soil is of good quality, resting on papa
formation; well watered. Elevation, from 650 ft. to 1,600 ft.
above sea-level.

Situated on Waitewhena Road. Access from Wairere
Falls (twelve miles and three-quarters distant), ten miles
rough horse-track, remainder pack-track. The land com- prises broken ranges and gullies, some terraces, and small
flats on the Paraheka Stream; the forest is fairly heavy,
consisting of tawhero, tawa, rata, rewarewa, and manuka,
with a thick undergrowth; the soil is fair, on papa forma- tion; well watered. Elevation, from 300 ft. to 1,200 ft.
above sea level.

FIRST-CLASS LIGHT-BUSH LAND.
Waitomo County.—Heao Survey District.

Situated on Kokoputi Road. Access from Mangaroa,
twelve miles distant by horse-road. The land is level,
hilly, and undulating, covered with forest of tawa, tawhero,
hinau, rimu, rata, &c., and mixed undergrowth ; the soil is
good, on papa-and sandstone formation ; well watered.
Elevation, 600 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Whenuakura Road. Access from Ongarue
(twenty -two miles distant), nineteen miles dray-road,
remainder horse-road. The land is hilly and undulating;
contains forest of rata, rimu, kahikatea, tawa, towhai, with
fern and scrub towards Whenuakura ; a considerable area is
open; good soil, on papa formation ; well watered. Elevation, from 520 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.
SECOND-CLASS LIGHT-BUSH LAND.

Situated on Mokau-Ohora Road. Access from Te Kuiti
(about thirty-one miles distant), sixteen miles dray-road,
twelve miles horse-road, and remainder pack-track. The
land comprises open ridges at the front, rising towards the
back; the forest is light at the front, but heavier at the
back, consisting chiefly of tawa, rewarewa, and kahikatea,
with a light undergrowth; soil of fair quality, on papa
formation; fairly well watered. Elevation, from 400 ft. to
800 ft. above sea level.

Situated on Waitewhena Road, about thirteen miles and
a half from Wairere Falls by horse-track, which does not
follow surveyed road. The land comprises steep ridges and
sidelings, rising from Paraheka Stream, and small manuka
flats on frontage; forest consists of tawa, tawhero, &c.,
heavy undergrowth; soil is inferior, on papa formation;
well watered. Elevation, from 300 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea- level.
THIRD SCHEDULE.
FIRST-CLASS SCRUB LAND.
Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

Situated on Mokau-Ohora Road. Access from Te Kuiti
(twenty-four miles distant), nineteen miles by dray-road,
remainder by pack-track. The section comprises low flats
and ridges, chiefly covered with fern and scrub; there
is a little mixed forest along Huioteko Stream, and also a
small area of swamp; the soil varies from fair to good, on
papa formation; well watered. Elevation, from 350 ft. to
570 ft. above sea-level.
SECOND-CLASS SCRUB LAND.
Waitomo County.—Aria Survey District.

Situated on Mokau-Ohora Road. Access from Te Kuiti
(thirty miles distant), sixteen miles dray-road, twelve miles
horse-road, and remainder pack-track. The land is mostly
open, with flats along Huioteko Stream, rising to centre,
and falling to Kaeaea Road, covered with a light forest of
kahikatea, rimu, rewarewa, and tawhero, with thick under- growth; soil good on the flat, but inferior on the ridges;
papa formation; well watered. Elevation, 450 ft. to 700 ft.
above sea-level.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of
“The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William
Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to
say :—
- The rural lands described in the Schedule hereunto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on
and after the twenty-third day of October, one thousand nine hundred and six, at the respective prices specified
in the said Schedule. - The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in
perpetuity: provided that in the case of lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone,
they shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash. - For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands described in the
said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”
