THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

the following resolution was duly passed by way of special order:
That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and the amendments to both these Acts respectively, the Petone Borough Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing interest, sinking fund, and other charges on a loan of £2,000, authorised to be raised by the aforesaid Council, for the purpose of the completion of municipal shops and offices, for furnishing and equipping the same, and for the payment of all professional fees in connection with the erection thereof, the Council of the Borough of Petone hereby makes and levies a special rate of ¼d. in the pound sterling on the unimproved rateable value of all the rateable property within the Borough of Petone, as set out in the Proclamation creating the said borough in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th day of July, 1888; and such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of fifteen years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

Clerks of Magistrates’ Courts to whom Statements of Liquor shall be sent under Section 5 of “The Licensing Acts Amendment Act, 1904,” appointed.

I HEREBY notify that, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (1), (b), of section 5 of “The Licensing Acts Amendment Act, 1904,” I have appointed the Clerk for the time being of the Magistrate’s Court at Invercargill, the Clerk for the time being of the Magistrate’s Court at Oamaru, and the Clerk for the time being of the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland to be the Clerks to whom shall be sent all statements of liquor sent or taken into the Licensing Districts of Invercargill, Oamaru, and Grey Lynn respectively.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.
CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the undermentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond, namely:
Port of Lyttelton.
The New Zealand International Exhibition Building, situated in a portion of North Hagley Park, containing by measurement 124 acres, more or less, being part of Reserve 24, City of Christchurch, to be known as THE EXHIBITION BOND.

North-west Coast.
It is hereby notified that a reef, carrying about 1 ft. of water over it at low water, neap tides (supposed to be the Amur Reef), has been reported in lat. 16° 27' 15" south, and long. 123° 16' 22" east.
Charts affected : No. 1047, Cape Ford to Buccaneer Archipelago; No. 1048, Buccaneer Archipelago to Bedout Island; No. 1052, King Sound.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Board of Trade, London, are published for general information.
WM. HALL-JONES.
AFRICA.
CAPE MORGAN.—A sunken rk. is reported to exist in approx. 32° 45' S., 28° 20½' E., about 3 miles S. 56° W. from the cape, Kei River approach. No sounding was obtained on the rk., but a depth of 5 fms. was found 10 yds. from it. The danger is charted in the above position, and marked P.D.
N. SAND BLUFF.—The s.s. “Congella” is reported to have struck on a shoal in approx. 31° 0½' S., 30° 18' E., about 1 mile from the shore, with N. sand bluff S. 83° W., 4 miles. This danger has been charted as carrying less than 6 ft., and marked “Congella Shoal.”
TABLE BAY.—The wrk. of the ship “Highfields,” in approx. 33° 53' S., 18° 25½' E., in 10 fms., 8 cables N. 40° E. from the end of the N. breakwater, is not regarded by the local pilots as dangerous to nav., as it is supposed to have become embedded in the sand. The wrk. buoy and the tug have in consequence been withdrawn. Vessels are, however, recommended to avoid anchoring over the wrk.
EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO.
SUNDA STRaits.—On 21st March, 1906, the fl. white lt. (6° 45' S., 105° 12½' E.) on First Pt., Java Head, was temp. replaced by a provis. fl. white lt. every 30 secs., dura. of fl. 4 secs., R. 18 miles, exh. from a white iron frame, 65 ft. high, 69 ft. wrd. of the lt.-h. The perm. lt.-building is to be partially or entirely taken down for reconstr.
MEINDERTS REEF.—The F. white lt. (70° 40½' S., 114° 26' E.) on this reef is to be altered to an occ. white lt., vis. 10 secs., ecl. 10 secs.
BULELENG LT.—This lt. (8° 5½' S., 115° 5½' E.) is to be altered from F. white to a quick-fl. lt.
SABALANA OR POSTILLON ISLS.—A reef, carrying less than 3 fms., exists in approx. 7° 4' S., 118° 12' E., amongst the isls., with Samberjaga S. 61° E., 2½ miles, and Sapuka Kechil S. 40° W. One mile and a half S. 58° E. from this reef a sounding of 18 fms. was obtained, and between which and the above reef discoloured water was obser., probably another reef carrying about 3 fms.
TELOK BALEH APPROACH.—A reef, carrying 2 fms., exists in approx. 8° 19½' S., 119° 56½' E., in the approach to Telok Baleh, with the S. extr. of Gili Bodo Isl. S. 69° E., 4½ miles, and the S. pt. of Seraya Besar Isl. S. 53° W.
CHINA SEA.
HAITAN STRAIT.—A rk. which dries is reported to exist in approx. 25° 11½' N., 119° 34' E., in the ssn. entr. to the strait, with High Cone, Lam Yit, N.W., 1 mile, and Triangle Yit summit N. 81° E.
YANG-TSE-KIANG.—S. CHAN.—The conical buoy, red and black vert., in approx. 31° 13' N., 121° 52½' E., marking the S.-ern. end of the middle ground in the S. chan., has sunk, and will not probably be replaced; it has been erased from the charts.
On 6th Feb., 1906, the 2 buoys prev. in approx. 31° 26' N., 121° 31' E., 1½ miles S. 5° W., and 1 mile S. 54° W. from the Sanitary Station, marking the quarantine anchorage, Chung Pao Sha, were to be removed, and 2 white sph. buoys were to be moored about 1 mile apart, in 3 fms., as a guide to vessels using this anchorage, but the position of these buoys is not given.
PORT ARTHUR.—The Japanese Government state that the mines in the approach to Port Arthur have been cleared away within an area contained between lines drawn sly. from pts. (1) in approx. 38° 48' N., 121° 25½' E., and (2) in 38° 43' N., 121° 12' E.; the ssn. limit being a line running E. and W. in 38° 38' N. Vessels, however, must still exercise due caution, as solitary mines may still exist in this locality, though it is believed that the sweeping operations carried out have been effective. The cautionary note respecting mines will for the present be retained on the charts until it is known that the whole of the coast in this locality is free from these dangers.
