Alteration to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, Albert Pitt, Acting Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 14th day of May, 1906.

PART I.—PASSENGERS.
(Regulation 38.)

Insert—
Tourist excursion tickets, (a) and (c) series, will be obtainable also at Omakau.
Tourist excursion tickets, (a) and (c) series, will be available for travel over Lake Wakatipu.

Cancel Regulation 41.

Insert—
Maoris attending Native Land Courts and Maori Councils.
41. Maoris travelling to attend sittings of the Native Land Court or Maori Councils may, at the option of the Railway Department, be granted return tickets at three-fourths the ordinary return fares. Application, specifying the date on and place at which the Court or Council will be held, must first be made to the District Manager at least seven days before the opening of the Court or Council.
The Department reserves to itself the right to decline any application.

PART I.—LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
HURUNUI-BLUFF SECTION.

Insert—
The following fares will be charged between the stations named:—

Cancel—
Round-trip Tours through Central Otago.
Round-trip tickets, available for three months from date of issue, will be issued between 1st November and 31st March, as under:—

  • Including steamer and coach fares.

These tickets are available via Waimea line only.
The journey may be broken at any station at which the train is timed to stop after travelling twenty-five miles from the original starting-station, provided the specified time for which the tickets are available is not exceeded.

PART III.—GOODS: REGULATIONS.

Racing and other boats for use in contests at regattas will be conveyed free both ways provided they are accompanied by their crews.

Rowing-boats for use in contests at regattas will be conveyed free both ways provided they are accompanied by their crews.

(Regulation 44.)

Insert—
New Zealand International Exhibition.
In consideration of their being carried solely at the risk of consignors, and of the Government being freed of all liability in connection therewith, exhibits consigned for exhibition at the New Zealand International Exhibition, to be opened at Christchurch on 1st November, 1906, will be carried free on the New Zealand Government railways, provided that each package shall be consigned to the secretary of the Exhibition and marked legibly “For exhibition at New Zealand International Exhibition.”
Under similar conditions, and on the production of a certificate from the secretary of the Exhibition stating that the exhibits have not been transferred, exchanged, or sold, and are still the property of the original consignors, free railage will be granted on the return journey.
All loading and unloading shall be done at the risk and expense of the consignors.
In the event of any portion of the exhibits being sold, the full ordinary railage charges must be paid on the whole of the exhibits as originally consigned to the Exhibition, and also on the unsold portion which is returned from the Exhibition.

PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.
Picton Section.
Through booking between Wellington or the Port (Nelson) and stations on the Picton Section.

Insert—
Barley booked through from Seddon, Riverlands, and intermediate stations to Wellington and shipped from Picton will be charged 1s. per sack for conveyance by rail and steamer, including wharfage and unloading at Picton.

PART V.—CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS, LIVE-STOCK, PARCELS, AND LUGGAGE.
