which loan a special rate of ¾d. in the pound upon the rateable values of rateable property within the said district was made by this Council by special order on the 7th day of April, 1905, has been found insufficient to complete the said works, and that application has been made to the Colonial Treasurer, under section 68 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for a further loan of £50 to complete the said works, hereby resolves that, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £50, authorised to be raised by the said Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments, to complete the metalling of the roads leading to the main road in Block III, Maungatua Survey District, the Taieri County Council aforesaid hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/16d. in the pound upon the rateable values of all rateable property of the West Taieri Special-rating District, Taieri County, comprising Sections 37, 38, 39, parts 40 to 42, Sections 53, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 68, 69, Block III, Maungatua Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the currency of such further loan, and to be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each and every year during the currency of such further loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until such further loan is fully paid off; the rate of interest to be 4 per centum per annum. And also that the special rate hereby made is to be in addition to the said special rate of ¾d. in the pound already made as above recited.

I hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a resolution adopted at a special meeting of the Taieri County Council held on the 6th day of April, 1906, and confirmed at a special meeting of the Council held on the 4th day of May, 1906, and now stands as a special order.

Special Order made by the Council of the Borough of Petone.

THE following special order, made by the Petone Borough Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Special Order.

NOTICE is hereby given that at a special meeting of the Petone Borough Council held on the 2nd day of April, 1906, the following resolution was duly passed by way of special order, viz.:

That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and the amendments of both these Acts respectively, the Petone Borough Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing interest, sinking fund, and other charges, at the rate of 4 per cent. per annum, on a loan of £2,500, authorised to be raised by the aforesaid Council, for the purpose of equipping a sanitary depot, including the erection of buildings, fencing, formation of roads and railway, and all works and surveys in connection therewith, the Council of the aforesaid Petone Borough hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/16d. in the pound sterling on the unimproved rateable value of all the rateable property within the boundaries of the said Borough of Petone, as set out in the Proclamation creating the said borough in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th day of July, 1888; and such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate, and be repayable half-yearly on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

BOROUGH OF LOWER HUTT.

Declaration by Mayor.

NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Lower Hutt, including all other persons entitled to vote on proposals to raise loans, was duly taken at the Council Chamber, Main Road, Lower Hutt, and at the office of the Hutt County Council, 215 Lambton Quay, Wellington, on Thursday, the 3rd day of May, 1906, upon the following proposals:—

PROPOSED SPECIAL LOAN OF £14,000.

To be floated locally (or otherwise) by the issue of debentures, at such rate of interest as the Council may think fit not exceeding 5 per cent. per annum, under the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” and its amendments, and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments.

The Council of the Borough of Lower Hutt hereby gives notice that such Council proposes to borrow by way of special loan within the meaning of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments, the sum of £14,000, to be expended as hereinafter set forth, namely:—

(1.) In the purchase and acquisition of the mains, lamps, and other gas plant belonging to the Corporation of the Borough of Petone within the Borough of Lower Hutt, together with all rights belonging to the Borough of Petone relating to the manufacture and distribution of gas and of electricity and power, under the provisions of “The Petone and Hutt Corporations Empowering Act, 1905”

(2.) In the purchase and acquisition or the construction and provision of gasworks for the supply of coal-gas to the Borough of Lower Hutt, including the taking or acquisition of lands and other rights, and including the purchase or provision of buildings, gasworks, mains, lamps, pipes, conduits, service-pipes, and all other plant, material, reticulation, and things whatsoever necessary, convenient, or desirable in connection with such gasworks, and including the provision of any sum required to be paid to the Corporation of the Borough of Petone for the purchase of the mains, plant, and rights mentioned in paragraph (1) over and above the said sum of £4,500

The loan will be appropriated to the above objects in the proportions above specified. It is not proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan, nor the interest on the loan for the first year.

The Council proposes to pledge a special rate of 3/10d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved value) of all rateable property in the borough as security for the said loan of £14,000 and the interest thereon, and to provide thereout a sinking fund should the Council think proper to provide one.

It is proposed that the whole amount of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term not exceeding twenty-five years, computed from the date of this notice.

And at such poll the number of votes recorded was as follows:—

Proposal No. 1, £4,500.—For the proposal, 200; against the proposal, 20; informal votes, 2.

Proposal No. 2, £9,500.—For the proposal, 166; against the proposal, 54; informal votes, 2.

And I do hereby declare both of the said proposals carried.
