Rural Lands in Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

The rural lands described in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the eighteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and six, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedule.

The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity: provided that in the case of lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, they shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.

For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands described in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”

No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of four years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Soil of rather poor quality, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Ten miles from Opotiki—eight miles and a half by cart-road and balance by 6 ft. bridle-track.

Altitude, from 50 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level. Broken country. About 150 acres fern; balance heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rata, towai, tanekaha, with thick undergrowth of karamu, neinei, ponga; well watered. Access from Opotiki, about twenty-two miles distant.

Altitude, from 150 ft. to 1,940 ft. above sea-level. Broken country, with steep spurs, covered with heavy forest, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, towai, tanekaha, with thick undergrowth of rangiora, karamu, ponga, neinei. Soil fairly good, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Situated about twenty miles from Opotiki—eight miles and a half by cart-road, eleven miles bridle-track, one mile unformed.

Broken country, with some small river-flats on Sections 10 and 11; all covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, towai, pukatea, kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of ponga, karamu, mahoe, neinei. Soil fair to good on Section 9, and generally good on Sections 10 and 11, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Section 9 is distant nineteen miles from Opotiki by dray-road and 6 ft. bridle-track, which is formed to within half a mile of section. Sections 10 and 11, from eleven to twelve miles from Opotiki, nine miles being by cart-road and balance by 6 ft. bridle-track.

Altitude—Section 1, from 70 ft. to 1,600 ft.; Section 2, from 80 ft. to 2,080 ft. above sea-level. Comprise broken country, covered with heavy mixed forest, containing tawa, rata, rimu, towai on tops of spurs, pukatea, kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of ponga, neinei, karamu, and fern. Soil of fair quality, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Situated from ten to twelve miles from Opotiki, nine miles being by cart-road, balance bridle-track along the Pakihi Stream.

Soil of fair quality, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Situated about fourteen miles from Opotiki, nine miles being by cart-road, balance by bridle-track formed to within two miles of the section, and the formation of which as a cart-road is now proceeding.

Soil generally of fair quality, but poor on ridges, rocky in places, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. Situated about sixteen miles from Opotiki, ten miles being by dray road.
