Soil of fair quality, stony in places, resting on volcanic formation; well watered. About twenty-six miles from Opotiki, ten miles by dray-road, thirteen miles by good horse-track, and the balance good foot-track.

Very broken country, especially so in the north-west portion of the section; covered with mixed forest, comprising chiefly tawa, tawhero, tawari, towai, rata, rimu, with thick undergrowth. Soil of fairly good quality, but inferior near trig. station at north end, and rests on volcanic formation; fairly well watered. Situated eighteen miles from Opotiki, ten miles being dray-road, balance by good horse-track.

Altitude, from 300 ft. to 2,335 ft. above sea-level. Mostly rough and broken country, with steep spurs, Section 1 being somewhat precipitous in the south-west and in places on the eastern portion. Section 2 has flats along Waiata Stream suitable for homestead-site. Both sections covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rata, hinau, rimu, tawari, tawai on main ridges, with thick undergrowth. Soil generally of fair quality, resting on volcanic formation, but inferior on ridges and in vicinity of Trig. Station 739c; well watered. Section 1, distant about nineteen miles from Opotiki, ten miles being dray-road, balance good horse-track and foot-track up the Tauranga Stream. Section 2, about twenty-six miles from Opotiki, ten miles being dray-road, twelve miles horse-track, balance by rough foot-track up the Waioeka and Waiata Rivers.

Altitude, from 250 ft. to 2,280 ft. above sea-level. Sections 6 and 7 contain some steep as well as some easy country. Section 9, rough, broken country, with steep spurs, and a few small flats along Waioeka River and Waiata Stream. All sections are covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, tawhero, rata, rimu, hinau, tawari, with thick undergrowth of horopito, petipeti, mauri, kiekie, and mahoe. Soil generally of fair quality, resting on volcanic formation, but somewhat poor on western side of Section 6; well watered. Distant from eighteen to twenty-two miles from Opotiki, ten miles being dray-road, balance good horse-track.

Broken country, with sufficient small flats and easy slopes on each section for homestead-sites; all covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rimu, pukatea, miro, towai on tops of ridges, and a little totara, with thick undergrowth of supplejack and shrubs. Soil of fairly good quality, resting on volcanic-rock formation; well watered. Situated from twenty-eight to thirty-two miles from Opotiki, ten miles being dray-road, twelve miles bridle-track, and balance foot-track.

Situated eighteen miles from Opotiki by good road for seven miles, six miles by 6 ft. bridle-track, and about five miles by Tutaetoko Stream.

Situated eighteen miles from Opotiki by good road for seven miles, six miles by formed track, and balance by Tutaetoko and Raetakahia Streams.
