Rural Lands in Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

1. The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twenty-third day of May, one thousand nine hundred and six, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedule.
2. The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity: provided that in the case of land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, it shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.
3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”
4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of four years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.
5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector, the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land, the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
Second-class Heavy-bush Land.

Altitude, from 1,400 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level. Mostly broken land, covered with mixed forest, chiefly taraire, with scattered rimu, totara, and kahikatea, with moderate growth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of fair quality, clay resting on sandstone formation; well watered; some rather wet country on north-west side of Section 10. Distant about forty miles from Whangarei—twenty miles by dray-road, balance by bridle and rough track. Distant thirty-five miles from Dargaville and twenty-five miles from Kaikohe, the access from both places being mostly by rough track.

Broken country; from 30 to 40 acres recently burnt bush on Section 11; balance mixed forest, comprising rata, taraire, tawa, towai, and scattered rimu, kahikatea, and totara, with moderate growth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of medium quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated from sixteen to eighteen miles from Mangakahia Post-office and store, and about eleven miles from Parakao Post-office. Access by rough track.

Broken and sloping ground of good quality; originally all mixed forest, chiefly taraire, with scattered rimu, totara, and kahikatea, and a few kauri-trees on Section 2; moderate undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; 30 acres on Section 2 and 40 acres on Section 3 have been burnt; well watered. Distant about forty miles from Whangarei, thirty miles from Dargaville, and thirty miles from Kaikohe. Access from Whangarei by dray-road for twenty miles, and the balance by bridle and rough track.

Rough country, all covered with mixed forest, comprising scattered totara, rimu, kahikatea, and soft woods, with moderate undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of good quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about thirty-five miles from Whangarei—twenty miles by dray-road, and balance by rough bridle-track.

Section 9, altitude from 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level; broken land, covered with mixed forest, comprising scattered taraire, rimu, totara, rata, miro, and kahikatea, with moderate undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of fair quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Section 11, altitude from 500 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level; broken land; 36 acres old kauri workings, covered with fern and burnt bush, balance mixed forest as in case of Section 9; soil of fair quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated from thirty-five to forty miles from Whangarei—twenty miles by dray-road, and balance by bridle and rough track.

Broken land, covered with mixed forest, containing rata, taraire, rimu, kahikatea, and kauri; moderate undergrowth of supplejack and kiekie; soil of medium quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Fronting Takitu Road, about eleven miles from Parakao Post-office by track, and about forty miles from Whangarei—twenty miles being by dray-road, and balance rough track. Weighted with £575, valuation for about 460,000 superficial feet of kauri timber.

Chiefly broken land; from 30 to 40 acres of fern land in each section, balance mixed forest, comprising taraire, rimu, totara, kahikatea, rata, miro, and kauri as stated below; moderate undergrowth of kiekie and supplejack; soil of good quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered. Situated about thirty-five miles from Whangarei, twenty miles by dray-road, balance by bridle and rough track; about ten miles from Parakao Post-office. Weighted with valuation for kauri timber as follows: Sections 8 and 13, £419 for about 335,276 superficial feet; Sections 10 and 14, £191 for about 152,780 superficial feet.
