Rural Land in Hawke’s Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

The rural land enumerated in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twelfth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and six, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedule.

The said land may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity: provided that in the case of land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, it shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.

For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the land enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”

No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said land for a period of four years from the date from which such land is disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such land during such period.

After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Rough forest country. Altitude, from 1,000 ft. to 2,400 ft. Mixed bush in the south and the west portions of the section; chiefly birch in the north-eastern portion. Light pumice land, well watered, with soil varying from medium to inferior. About fifty-one miles from Gisborne and forty-five miles from Wairoa. The bush contains tawa, rimu, hinau, manuka, and some totara, with undergrowth of supplejack and fern.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural land enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twelfth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and six; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Situated on the Hangaroa River, about eight miles from the Gisborne–Wairoa main road, with which it is connected by a formed road, and about thirty miles south-west from Gisborne. The land is all in grass.
