Rural Lands in Auckland Land District open for Selection
on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-
six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush
and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William
Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to
say,—

The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are
hereby set apart for disposal by way of selection on and
after the fifteenth day of November, one thousand nine
hundred and five, at the rentals specified in the said Schedule. -
The said lands may be selected on lease in perpetuity
only, as provided by section one hundred and twenty-one of
“The Land Act, 1892,” as they contain, or are supposed to
contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone, and shall not be
purchased for cash. -
For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown
Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the
said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “scrub land.” -
No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local
authority from the said lands for the period of two years
from the date from which in each case respectively such
lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power
to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during
such period. -
After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the
selector the further instalments of rent payable by him
for a period of two years shall not be demanded: provided
that if at any time during the first five years of his occu-
pancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land
the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and
thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of
rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the
aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the
selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Altitude, from 50 ft. to 100 ft. above sea-level. Hilly and
undulating land, covered with tea-tree and fern; clay soil on
sandstone formation; indifferently watered. Situated about
five miles from Huntly, and three miles from Ohinewai Rail-
way-station, by formed road. (Note.—There are outcrops of
coal in the near neighbourhood.)

for a period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, and

FIRST SCHEDULE.
WESTLAND COUNTY.—WAITAHA SURVEY DISTRICT.
Second-class Heavy-bush Land.

Eighty acres is low-lying and partly subject to flood;
level; good loamy soil, with underbed of gravel; partly
light scrub and ribbonwood and partly black scrub, with a
few black- and white-pines. The remaining 220 acres com-
prises rather steep terraces and ridges; soil brown, stony in
parts, with gravel subsoil; covered with mixed bush, timber
mostly rimu and birch. Well watered. Accessible by road,
and distant from Ross fifteen miles.

One hundred and forty acres is low-lying, part level, part
undulating; covered with black scrub, light scrub, and
mixed bush; good soil, with gravel subsoil. The remain-
ing 200 acres comprises rather steep terraces and ridges;
soil brown, stony in parts, with underbed of gravel; covered
with mixed bush, mostly rimu and birch. Well watered.
Accessible by road and river-bed. Distant from Ross about
sixteen miles.

One hundred acres of this section is a long narrow strip,
part flat, part undulating, lying on east of section; soil
sandy, with gravel underbed; covered with light scrub, fern,
and mixed bush. The remaining 190 acres is broken, with
black soil, and gravel subsoil; covered with mixed bush,
chiefly rimu and birch. Well watered. Accessible by road
and river-bed. Distant from Ross about seventeen miles.
WESTLAND COUNTY.—MOUNT BONAR SURVEY DISTRICT.

One hundred and thirty acres is partly level and partly
undulating; soil good, of a sandy nature, with gravel sub-
soil; covered with mixed bush, fern, and ribbonwood. The
remainder, 107 acres, is rough and broken, thirty acres being
stony, with poor soil; the rest covered with black soil, with
gravel underbed; timbered with mixed bush, chiefly rimu
and birch. Well watered. Accessible by road and river-bed.
Distant from Ross about eighteen miles.

One hundred and sixty acres mostly level, but parts ter-
raced and undulating; soil sandy, but fair, with gravel
subsoil; mostly covered with scrub and mixed bush, with a
great deal of fallen timber. The remaining 160 acres is, on
the west, rough, with poor soil, and covered with mixed
bush; the part on the east is fairly flat, with black soil,
and underbed of gravel, and covered with mixed bush and
fallen timber, chiefly rimu and birch. Well watered. Ac-
cessible by road and river-bed. Distant from Ross about
twenty-one miles.
