The Western Union telegraph cable connecting Albert Head, Victoria Island, with the United States proceeds from the southern shore of Albert Head, in approximately 123° 29′ 48″ west longitude. It crosses the meridian 123° 30′ W. in latitude 48° 21′ 42″ N., recrosses the same meridian to the eastward in approximately latitude 48° 20′ N., reaches its most easterly point, longitude 123° 27′ 45″ W., in latitude 48° 17′ 54″ N., then trends in a south-south-westward direction, crossing the meridian 123° 30′ W. in latitude 48° 15′ N.
The superintendent states that several vessels have fouled this cable and broken it, thereby causing annoying interruption to business and costly repairs.
Vessels are cautioned against anchoring in the vicinity of this cable.

A rocky patch, composed of rock, large stones, and sand, lies off the western side of Reef Point, the north-western point of Thetis Island. It has several heads with 6 ft. on them at low water, and is connected with the shore. The outermost head has a depth of 6 ft. over it at low water, and lies 500 yards southward from Reef Point, with the shoreline abreast of it 360 yards distant.
