Special Orders made by the Wakanui Road Board, County of Ashburton, making By-laws.

THE following special orders, made by the Wakanui Road Board, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.

Special Order.—Grass seed By-law.

A BY-LAW of the body corporate called the inhabitants of the Wakanui Road District, made on the 22nd day of August, 1905, to regulate the cutting of grass-seed on roads in the district:—

In pursuance of the powers in that behalf conferred upon and vested in them by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and its amendments, and “The Public Works Amendment Act, 1904,” and every other power them hereto enabling, the inhabitants of the Wakanui Road District do hereby, by special order, make and ordain this by-law:—

  1. The short title of the by-law shall be “The Grass-seed By-law.”

  2. In this by-law—
    “Board” means Wakanui Road Board:
    “Chairman” means Chairman for the time being of the Wakanui Road Board:
    “Clerk” means the Clerk for the time being of the Wakanui Road District.

  3. No person shall at any time after the coming into operation of this by-law at any period of the year cut for seed any grass then growing upon any of the roads in the Wakanui Road District under the control of the Wakanui Road Board without the previous consent in writing of the Board under the hand of the Chairman or the Clerk thereof.

  4. No person shall hereafter at any period of the year cut for any purposes whatsoever any grass then growing upon any of the roads in the Wakanui Road District under the control of the said Board without the previous consent in writing of the said Board under the hand of the Chairman or Clerk thereof.

  5. Any person committing a breach of section 3 or 4 of this by-law shall for every such breach be liable to a penalty not exceeding £10.

  6. The Board shall be and is hereby empowered to cut, reap, harvest, thresh, sell, and dispose of all grass for seed, or, if it shall think fit, to sell and dispose of the right to cut and harvest all grass for seed, for the time being growing upon any of the roads in the said district under its control to any person or persons whomsoever, and either by public auction, public tender, or private treaty, and upon such terms and conditions in all respects as it shall think fit.

  7. All money received by the said Board from the sale and disposition of the said grass for seed, or the right to cut and harvest such grass-seed as aforesaid, shall belong to and form part of the Road Board Fund.

  8. This by-law shall come into operation upon its being gazetted.

I, John Kilgour, Clerk to the Wakanui Road Board, hereby certify that the foregoing by-law is a true copy of a special order made by the Wakanui Road Board on the 22nd day of August, 1905, and that such special order was made in all respects in terms of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.

Special Order.—Removal of Buildings By-law.

A by-law of the body corporate called the inhabitants of the Wakanui Road District, made on the 22nd day of August, 1905, to regulate the removal of buildings or other structures on the roads of the district:—

In pursuance of the powers in that behalf conferred upon and vested in them by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and its amendments, “The Public Works Amendment Act, 1904,” and every other power them hereto enabling, the inhabitants of the Wakanui Road District do hereby, by special order, make and ordain this by-law:—

  1. The short title of this by-law shall be “Removal of Buildings By-law.”

  2. No building or other structure of a greater weight than 5 tons (including the weight of any vehicle, carriage, or machine used to support the same) shall be drawn or otherwise transported upon any road or roads under the control of the Wakanui Road Board unless the owner of such building or other structure, or some other person, shall have previously paid to the said Board a sum of money sufficient, in the opinion of the Board, to cover the cost of reinstating such road or roads in the event of any damage being done to it or them by such transportation.

  3. Any person committing a breach of section 2 of this by-law shall for every such breach be liable to a penalty not exceeding £20.

  4. This by-law shall come into operation upon its being gazetted.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Stratford County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.

Result of a poll taken on the 24th day of August, 1905, upon the proposal to borrow £2,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for reforming and metalling the Bird Road from the Mountain Road to the Skinner Road: Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 13; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 2.

The total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal being more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

Cancellation of Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Town District of Wyndham.

WHEREAS by notice dated the 5th day of July, 1905, and gazetted on the 13th day of July, 1905, Richard John Seddon, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified as required by that section, did direct that, from and after the 17th day of July, 1905, all shops in the Town District of Wyndham (not being one of the districts mentioned in section 3 of the said Act) should be closed at 6 o’clock in the evening on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and at 10 o’clock in the evening on Saturdays: And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, the Minister of Labour has been requested to cancel the said notice:

Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred by the above-mentioned section, I do hereby cancel the said notice accordingly, cancellation to take effect from the 11th day of September, 1905.
