THE following special order, made by the Otatau Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

OTATAU TOWN DISTRICT.
Special Order making Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Otatau Town Board hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on the loan of £600, authorised to be raised by the Otatau Town Board, under the above-mentioned Act, for — Chester Street to Durham Street, 22 chains asphalting, £68; Alderly Street to Chester Street in Main Street (east side), Main Street to Queen Street in Alderly Street, King Street to Queen Street in Chester Street, kerbing and asphalting above, £125; crossings for same, £15; North Otatau from Harbison Street to north-west corner of Section 11, Block 2, kerbing and asphalting same, £62; Main Street from Alderly Street to bridge, east side, asphalting, £12; bridge on Esplanade, £50; bridge in Chester Street, £25; embankment on north side Otatau River, £20; embankment on south side Otatau River, £40; kerbing from Chester Street to Knutsford Road, east side King Street, £45; culverts to refill in Knutsford Road and King Street, £15; bridge in Harbison Street, £20; railway to cemetery in Clitheroe Street, formation and gravelling, £20; Queen Street from Chester Street to Rochdale Street, formation and gravelling, £35; Chester Street to Durham Street, Main Street, east side, kerbing and formation, £115; King Street from Knutsford Road to Nantwitch Street, formation and gravelling, £30; Devon Street from railway-crossing to Knutsford Road, formation and gravelling, £18; Queen Street from Alderly Street to Chester Street, kerbing, formation, and gravelling, £42; Nantwitch Street from King Street to Kendall Street, excavation and formation, £50; Hulme Street, footpath to Recreation Grounds, £10; Rochdale Street from Main Street to Queen Street, formation, gravelling, and footpath, £20; Mary Street, North Otatau, from Esplanade to Lieman Street, formation and gravelling, £90: total, £927 — the said Otatau Town Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of 3d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Otatau Town District, comprising 860 acres, more or less, as described on page 1819 of New Zealand Gazette No. 136, of the 27th December, 1883, and being all that area in the Provincial District of Otago, bounded towards the north by Section No. 14, Block 2, Aparima Hundred, and the southern boundary of that section produced across a railway reserve; thence towards the south-west by that railway reserve to a point in line with the southern boundary-line of Section No. 15, Block 2, Aparima Hundred; thence again towards the north by a right line to and by that boundary-line of said Section No. 15 to the Aparima River; thence towards the east generally by the Aparima River, Section 5, Block 2, Aparima Hundred, and the northern boundary of that section produced across the Otatau River; thence by that river to the southern side of Nantwitch Street; thence again by Section No. 5, Block 2, Aparima Hundred, a road-line, and Section No. 21, Block 1, Aparima Hundred, to a point in line with the northern boundary-line of Allotment No. 19, Aparima Estate; thence towards the south generally by a right line to and by the northern boundary of the said Allotment No. 19, and by Allotment No. 20, across a line, and by Allotment No. 72 of the said Aparima Estate; and thence towards the west generally by Allotment No. 71, Aparima Estate, Sections Nos. 2 and 11, Block 2, Aparima Hundred, and the eastern boundary-line of the last-named section produced across the Otatau River; and thence by the Otatau River to Section No. 14, Block 2, Aparima Hundred; as the same is delineated on the plans in the Survey Office, Invercargill: and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of October and the 1st day of March in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
The above is a true copy of a resolution adopted at a special meeting of the Otatau Town Board held on Monday, the 26th day of June, 1905, and confirmed at a special meeting of the Board held on Monday, the 31st day of July, 1905, at 7.30 p.m.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of New Plymouth, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF NEW PLYMOUTH.
“The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.” — Proposed Special Loan of £5,000.
I, RICHARD COCK, Mayor of the Borough of New Plymouth, in the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and of all other powers thereunto enabling me, do hereby give notice that on the 2nd day of August, 1905, a poll of the said borough was duly taken, under the provisions of the said Act, on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow a sum of £5,000 by way of special loan, a copy of the notice in respect of which is next hereinafter set out, and that on the taking of the said poll 137 electors voted for the said proposal, and 164 voted against it, and 15 votes were informal, and that accordingly the said proposal and the resolution in favour thereof have not been duly carried.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED LOAN.
The Council of the Borough of New Plymouth hereby give public notice that it proposes to borrow by way of special loan the sum of £5,000, at a rate of interest not exceeding £5 per centum per annum, with a sinking fund of ½ per cent. additional, the loan to be repayable on a period ending the 1st day of October, 1922, and to be for the following purposes: £5,000 to lay out a new street between Gill Street and St. Aubyn Street in the Borough of New Plymouth, to acquire in connection with laying-out of such street such lands and appurtenances as may be required, to pay compensation to any person injuriously affected, to construct a new bridge and approaches thereto, and such street formation, channelling, and metalling as may be required for the laying-out of such street, and to effect any other works incidental to or in relation to any of the above purposes. The Council proposes to pledge as security for the loan of £5,000 and the interest thereon a special rate of 1½d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the annual value) of all rateable property within the borough, and its revenues, rents, tolls, issues, and profits, with the exception of all lands taken, acquired, or used for a public abattoir, and all buildings, erections, structures, and appurtenances now or hereafter thereto belonging, and the revenues, rents, tolls, and profits therefrom, and also excepting moneys received or receivable by way of grant from the Government. The Council proposes that the first year’s interest, all preliminary expenses incurred in connection with the scheme for which the loan is raised, and the cost of raising the loan be paid out of the proceeds of such loan.
